So back from the dragstrip... still #2...

Well I went back to the strip yesterday…

Big change was that APR made me a custom race gas tune to try…

Car: 2010 Audi S4 - DSG with sports dif, 5,500 miles, 1/8 tank of gas, tools and spare removed
Mods: APR beta race gas tune, APR pulley, LFC’s, miltek non-res exhaust, custom intake, APR CPS, front and rear sways, BBS CHR’s

Conditions: 40-48F, 50-70% humidity, 30.4 BP… DA was 0-300… Great DA but too cold of a track

Got a total of 4 runs in for the day… Unfortunately, I didn’t beat the 11.88 that was posted on AZ but I did run another 11 second pass on my second run…

Run 1: I debated on tire pressure with the weather and ended up going 40f 34r… big mistake! DA was about 0 as I mentioned above, it was cold and the track was very cold… They had it prepped well but it didn’t matter… They let street cars go first which they probably should have had the slick cars go… anyway, car spun like crazy, got squirrelly and only cut a 1.78 60ft… see vid and slip…

Run 2:
I dropped the tire pressure 36f 30r with the DA still near 0 and the track being cold… Spun a little bit but not as bad as the first run… Ran my best ET of 11.99

Run 3: I dropped the pressure to 34f 28r with the DA rising and the track temp rising… Got a good launch, unfortunately the 60ft light was frosted over so not sure of the 60ft time… ran a 12.02…

Run 4: Since I didn’t spin I kept the pressure the same and was rewarded with my best ever 1.64 60ft time… unfortunately, my 1-2 hung up and this cost me 2+tenths… Ran a 12.12 as a result…

So needless to say I was a little bummed… As I mentioned I was testing a new tune and thought I would post a better time… I think I needed to let it adapt longer but not sure… I have emailed the logs to APR and will see if they want to tweak the tune again this week or just have me try again next weekend… It got better as the day went and I am sure if the shift didn’t take a dump on the last run I would have went 11.8x, but I didn’t and that’s all that matters… Wanted to make a few more passes but my brother had to work and it was a good 2 hour wait as there was 250+ cars… So will see how we do going forward… 100% gutting these cats or getting headers for next spring! I am still trapping lower than I did last year! I know if I had headers I would be running much much better… Disappointed I didn’t run better but I dumped alot of boost and I think there is more left in the car as it sits… I’ll have some external vids later if I can figure this POS camera out… LOL

The logs really tell a story:
Run 1 average timing was 23 degrees with average boost of 12.2 PSI but I was bypassing an average of 14% of the boost! IAT’s were on average 33.7c so very very good…
Run 2 average timing was down slightly to 22.5 degrees on average but boost was 13.26 PSI and I was only dumping about 8%… IAT’s were still good at an average of 40.8c
Run 3 average timing was down again to 21.3 degrees on average and boost was 14.0 PSI and I only dumped 5%… IAT’s were up to 48.4c so still pretty good…
Run 4 average timing was down to right about 20 degrees on average but boost was up to 14.3PSI on average and IAT’s were at 53.7c
I saw as much as 16psi which is the highest I have seen but I was dumping boost almost all the time and not sure why… More than willing to share the logs if anyone wants to review them…

interesting stuff. I thought you would kill it with the great weather. would have been cool to see you try the regular 100 octane file as well and log it to see if it was more effective.

as for your trap speeds, I really don’t think I’d read too much into that. When you look around, they look like they’re where they should be, don’t they? The fact you were trapping 117 on stock downpipes is more the ‘anomoly’ to me. Hard to say though. The car is definitely accelerating better with the current setup but again, there still hasn’t been any discussion of what the car NEEDS exhaust wise so we can’t really comment, can we? We can guess, but frankly the 034 cars are the fastest cars out there, other than kevkev. Hard to fault them.

First car in the 11s = primetime on 034 HFC
Fastest pump gas car = jfonx on 034 test pipes (I think)
Second fastest pump gas car = 81bear on 034 HFC

I’d like to see a rundown of your stock downpipe/cat times vs. your 034 times, focusing on 1/8th ET and MPH vs. 1/4 ET and MPH. If those HFCs are really a big restriction, the data will show up in the second half won’t it?

Also, do you have a 3rd gear pull log (say 2000-7000 rpm) from last year vs. this year in similar conditions? That too would be interesting to compare something.

Saki, Yeah I thought I would run better as well… Just couldn’t hook well and then the dumping of the boost… Will see what APR says and go back next weekend either way… I don’t see me running a 11.5 like kevkev did though w/o headers… The cats are hurting my top end for sure… Last year I was trapping 117+ w/o the pulley or cats… Conversly they are helping down low but I know headers would as well… I think I am going to buy a set this winter and then get them installed in early spring… I’ll just run collectors plates on the car like I do with my Mustang… Still can’t get over kevkev running a 11.5 as that is moving… Good times ahead for the platform…

yeah 11.5 is pretty awesome. 11.59 or 11.50?..not sure.

Thinking about it though, he’s on 104 octane, he is adding meth to the mix, he has headers and is fully catless…and he has a manual transmission.

You are on 100 octane, stock manifolds, HFC and are on the DSG with it’s drivetrain loss and weird shift lags (like your 2-3 which still sounds like it slips).

Big gap in mods even though it doesn’t seem that way. Put him on pump and put you on pump and it would be interesting to see what’s up.

p.s. who tuned his car? Is APR tuning for meth now? I doubt that. To that end if you don’t tune around meth isn’t that kinda dangerous if you run out?

I still want to see what the fastest B8 cars run on pump gas.

Yeah his slip is hard to read… I think it says 11.59 but not positive… sucks that it doesn’t show 1/8th et or mph either… Hopefully, he goes again and can get a vid as I would love to see the car make a pass…

Agreed having headers and no cats at all is the biggest delta… I doubt APR tuned for meth but since he is running the 100 tune with 104 gas and the meth it just ups the octane on the gas more and probably allows the ecu to run a little more timing and also doesn’t pull any timing… As long as he is running race gas he is fine but if he runs the race gas program on 93 and meth and runs out he could have issues… I don’t think the meth is helping him all that much IMO but who knows…

Yeah, I still want to run the 93 tune this year… will see if APR wants to tweak the tune again and if so I will give that a shot, if not maybe I’ll just run pump this weekend… Would like to beat my 11.97 so if they do retune it I gotta try! LOL

Posting record setting times usually includes video and you need to post 2 full timeslips just to get on the list. that’s what we do in B6/7 land. I’m not sure what Arin does for the B8 list? I frankly don’t care. 11.5 is awesome. Hopefully we hear a bit more from kevin.

Anyway, anyone have any pics of his headers or anything? Would be neat to get a look at them and compare them to the other set(s) that are out there.

All my 12.2 times you can call the track and they will verify them. Seems the B8 world is kinda like the B5 world the guys are as fast as you can manipulate the data.
