what do you know about these motors. from the sound of it the tune can push more in the mid range but looks like from your one post top end is kinda pinned. do you see a stagte 3 in the gfuture or too soon to tell.
I feel like mid 10s for the TTRS and 3.0T S4/5 is pretty doable in true stage 3 form and REAL racegas, none of this 100 oct stuff haha. Q16/E100 or bust. I know most of your customers aren’t wanting that, I just have a hunch time will show us mid 10s are easily within reach. Let alone stage 2 S6’s touchin the 10s.
Are you a 3.0 or a 4.2? Because I know 4.2s don’t have a chance on stock block. I would place a $20 wager, subject to inflation, that in 5 years we have a stock block b8 S4 in the mid 10s (10.6-10.4) as well as a TTRS in the mid 10s. You wanna take that wager? My $20 subject to inflation will see your $20 subject to inflation?
Stage 2 S6/7 will be lucky to trap 125 MPH and ET 11.40 I would say. Stock they’re low 12s @ 115 or so. Running 10s they’ll need about 15 mph of trap speed. That’s a big ask from those turbos.
We already have a 4.2 RS4 stock block, pump gas that ran 11.41 @ 125 MPH. We have a dozen of them dynoing 500 whp on stock block. We have seen R8 (same block for the most part) dynoing 600 whp with some race gas. The 4.2 FSI can handle more power than the B5 S4 stock motor. Think about that for a minute.
tweets…you need to read more.
The 4.2 FSI high revving motor cars (RS4/RS5/R8) have a fantastic engine with forged internals. The S4 3.0T…doesn’t. To start trapping 130 MPH I reckon a 3.0T will need rods at a minimum…and there is no engine building program in sight for that platform.
The 4.2 FSI cars won’t need ‘5 years’ to hit 10s. I reckon we’ll see it before Christmas.
You’re right, I was uninformed about the S5 SFI, I wasn’t aware it was forged…? I thought only the RS4 engine was. I knew the RS4 was already there, essentially, but not the S5. Especially not an APR S5, that blower is too small for mid 10s IMO. Where is the literature on the rods in the S5 FSI ? I was told the S4s rods were forged, where did you find that out?
The S5 is basically the bottom end of the RS4. Different heads and intake manifold etc. but the S5 engine is stout!
You’re right about the APR TVSr1320. That blower will stall out at enough power to make the cars go mid 11s @ teens MPH on pump. Not sure about race as most of the 4.2 guys don’t seem to live and die by the race gas since we don’t really run that in our cars day to day.
However APR is working on a new blower kit (bigger blower) for the 4.2 twin intake RS4/RS5 and hopefully the kit will trickle down to the S5 4.2 FSI and the single intake B7 RS4.
PES (lol) is working on a whipple blower kit for the S5 4.2 and RS5 right now.
AMD is working on a TVS1900 kit for the 4.2 FSI RS4
JHM has a massive Vortech blower that they’re already testing on the B7 RS4
The 4.2 FSI cars are doing great things. There is still no 3.0T car anywhere near the TTS/MRC B7 RS4 that went 11.4 @ 125…on pump gas…with a modest launch and easy shifting. There’s lots more on the table here.
Interesting, any literature to back this up. Can we use the term Mis-informed, makes me
feel better. Also, who found out that the S4 doesn’t have forged rods…?
Correction, I am now informed. Read the SST, the only thing that is the same is between the two engines are the dimensions. They are forged but not the same materials as the RS4. Eg, not as strong, also, the RS4 can revv higher due to a dual mass dampener and crank case webbing changes from what I understand (helps resist a certain harmonic frequency at higher RPM). So we were both respectively wrong. I thank you for the prompt and I hand the thread back over to its owner, sorry Arin… :-\
yeah s5 is an all forged rotating assembly, same with the rs4. The metallurgy is not the same for the rods and pistons, though. iirc the steel for the crank is the same as whats been used in all the 4.2s
the s5 motor should be plenty strong to hold enough power for 10s though.
