So what happened to 'meem' and his APR 1740 car? Was it Ben?

Word is meem’s car is down for the count. He went APR 1740 supercharged about 2 months ago. Many of you will remember that he had BenSTi aka BenSTLie help him with the install.

The 2-3 day job turned into a 2 week job…and then there were reports Ben was badmouthing the APR kit offline, saying it’s crap and that it can’t even go WOT. Well, that was because Ben the moron sourced the wrong sized injectors for the car on ebay, installed htem, and the car was fuel starved at high RPMs. He also took apart the kit in order to give measurements on the intercooling etc. to AMVIVA jonathan. It was no surprise when jonathan was quoting incorrect numbers for the APR intercooler size a few days later on the forums. Good old Ben. Apparently he was trying to work himself into a deal with Amviva.

A real friend to meem!

Anyway,a couple of months ago there was some talk about getting these 3 kits together (AMVIVA, JHM, APR) and having a battle. The other day someone asked gesTTalt AKA tridoctor if he was up for it, and he mentioned he was, but that meem’s car was down in June.

Apparently it is still down? This is a month?

Anyone know what’s happening? Did Ben’s great workmanship kill the engine? Or was there another problem?

I was up in the bay, so couldn’t do a compro then.

[quote=gesTTalt]This was back at the beginning of June. I’m not sure of the status of his car now. He posted a dyno on QW comparing his 91 and 100 oct programs - used 100 oct gas for both runs.

So it looks like after the dyno, he ran into some trouble, and his car has been down for about 2 months?

Lots of problems, I wonder what was the cause?

16psi through an NA designed motor maybe.

Got forwarded a link to this post from a friend. I try to steer clear of Internet drama, but there comes a limit, even for me.

First, if you wanted to know what’s up with my car, my email address is readily available. I don’t recall seeing an email from you. Too bad, because I am more than happy to share what I know. As such, I must conclude you’re just interested in stirring the pot and/or attacking people. (Personally, I can’t imagine being so bored as to play what-if games with enthusiast’s cars and lives.)

Second, there are a number of things wrong in your post. Let me clear up a few of the more egregious ones:

Ben did not source the wrong-size injectors. The injectors were OEM Hitachi and were correct for the car. This was checked at the time of install, and re-checked when they were removed. Moreover, numerous others have bought injectors from exactly the same source without any problems.

Based on input from several people (including Ben), I made the decision to replace the injectors during the install. My car, my decision.

The kit was not “taken apart”. Further, Ben explicitly asked for my permission to measure some components of the kit, and also explicitly asked for my permission to share those measurements with AMD. These were requests I was happy to grant, as I would be for anyone on any forum. I do not regard APR’s externally-visible engineering decisions as any sort of secret.

Some things you have right. He has been a real friend to me, and I am happy to stand up for him here or anywhere else. (Yes, I understand your sarcasm.)

It is also true that my car had significant problems under WOT that were eventually root-caused to defective injectors. However, again, the injectors were – per their silkscreened labels, boxes, and overall appearance – correct for the car. Shit happens.

As for the subsequent problems with my car, I’ve said little because I prefer to speak when I have facts. The problems it’s been having confounded even extremely-experienced shops, and moreover it has been very difficult to tease apart which problems were inherent in APR’s kit, what problems were due to damage caused from the defective injectors, and what problems were pre-existing with my car (e.g., at 90K miles – 5K before the blower was installed – a scored camshaft lobe led to a head being replaced. Neither APR nor Ben had anything to do with that).

The car is now up and running, and I plan to take it to 034’s dyno day in a few hours (though I will be dyno’ing my supercharged M3 instead). I will be sharing more about my car there, and online once I have the time. Rest assured it will not be on this forum, but I’m confident someone will nonetheless create a dramatic post here with little clippings from other forums and whatnot. Sigh.

Off to enjoy my cars
meem

Hey meem, thanks for posting. More of a riddle now than it was before.

As far as your email address, I have no idea how I would find that. I don’t know you nor do I post on quattrofail. Further, people on Audizine were the ones talking about your car…maybe you should go there and bitch about them too. I just wanted to hear if anyone knew the real story, since whenever people get the motor pulled out of their car lots of stories fly around, few of them accurate.

This is an interesting version of ‘the facts’ regarding those injectors. Is that the final answer?

First it was ‘APR kit sucks and can’t go WOT’.
Then it was ‘wrong injectors’.
Then it was ‘injectors had no part number on them but we installed them anyway’.
Now it was ‘injectors were the right ones but these were bad injectors’.

If you’d like to see screenshots of Ben’s posts about your kit/car offline, let me know.

In any event, congratulations on your new supercharger (and evidently, new engine). Hope it works out for you. DOn’t be shy to take that car to Sacramento Raceway and let your friend Ben drive it down the strip in November when JHM hosts their Audi drag day. I have a contact for BNS engines, so I can have one cued up for you. Just send me an ‘email’.

I also am looking forward to seeing a pump gas dyno run from your car…since you went on race gas that last time and called it pump.

I found it very odd or basically sneaky that you dynoed your car with 100octane on both programs. So essentially you post whp for 91oct that is complete bullshit. You promise this honest testing and providing the platform with quality info, but you can’t even be honest about a stupid dyno??

Go back, regroup and get your stories together. Otherwise you look like a babbling fool, see above.
