Some good GIAC 1/4 times from Austin, I believe a GIAC record...

http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/400241-Official-1-4th-Quarter-Mile-Drag-Strip-Times?p=9327362&viewfull=1#post9327362

I guess I could have bumped an old thread but wanted to discuss… Only two slips posted but the 11.77 is pretty good given the DA, which is very similar to what Jeff and I had when I went 11.72 for a best and he went 11.82 for his best… Very very nice trap as well especially given his 1/8 trap… Car 60’s nice but still lagging what Jeff and I put down, granted he makes the point that he is on stock brakes which is fair… He does use the vaunted LC but I don’t think it is helping? I assume this was the latest tune GIAC has worked on to correct a few of their customers tunes… He mentions 104 Sunoco, so I assume that is GT260 plus? I think it’s slightly better than MS109 but not as good as the Shell URT… Given his mods the times are good no doubt about it!

Other thoughts… Headers don’t do shit, I know newsflash, LOL Basing this off of his times vs Jeff’s… Oh, I wonder why we haven’t seen any times from 1fastscam? Wonder why Paperbag can’t hit this track ::slight_smile: Can’t wait to see what Pete and Jeff run with the tune revisions this spring… Props to GIAC for pushing the platform…

Great times for sure. I’d also like to know whether this was on the race tune (Ryan asked in that thread). His description is a little ambiguous in that regard. Kudos to GIAC for continuing to push the platform.

Btw - Austin shld be posting this on AR, where we actually care about 1/4 mile times.

Why do you wonder if this is on the race tune? Their pump tunes could never take advantage of race fuel to this extent. Definitely tuned for race.

Any more news on their E85 development?

Yes, and you’re on boat anchor 25 lb BBS CHR.

He is on 19 lb (at worst) VOLK TE37

He just said GIAC Stage 2 ECU software. He shld post what file he was using.

Also agree with Ron’s skepticism regarding effectiveness of LC.

I found that LC on my s4 would bog down. I’ll try it in the RS5 if anyone here locally is going to hit the strip. But the LC on the RS5 feels faster than just flooring.

I’m kinda wondering if they raised or lowered the rpm’s of the LC. Seems pretty fast for stock rotors, and Maybe they found a sweet spot for the rpm’s to launch from thats better than just mashing the pedal. Which like Ron said, still seems like the best way. I also was just wondering if it was 100 tune, or 104 tune, or hey maybe a new mystery tune. Thats why I asked on the original thread.

Launch control on DSG tune is 4000rpm

It hits really hard. I have no slips to prove whether it is faster or slower. More this spring.

Brandon, Hopefully Thomas will post more about the passes with some vids? I got to believe it was the 104 tune…

Saki, Good point… I just did a quick search and found those wheels weigh between 20-21lbs depending on who you believe… He is also running the heavy as tires… I bet his setup isn’t too much lighter than mine given I’m running lighter tires and 245’s…

Scott, Yeah alot of the RS5 and S6 drivers say that… Would be nice to have some facts… Hit the strip when you get some time and good weather… Would love to see more RS5 times either way…

Ryan, Good point and they are the tuner so I’m sure they could… Just like they mentioned using E85 the other time…

Jeff, Yeah you should have tried it once while we were at the strip together… All though you were out 60ing me all day anyway, I think the 18’s really helped you there… Like I mentioned with the resvised tune I’m exicted to see what you and Pete can do in a good DA… I much much prefer “customer” times over tuner times but still glad Austin went and posted…

just go test it with your vbox sport

Considering I got the same time as Austin with the prior flash, and other than our brakes and tires the only difference is headers, and we ran in exact same DA. My DA was 500 approx when I ran 11.78

His 60’ was 1.67 mine was 1.62. His mph was higher at both traps. Dare I say the headers are going to be the clear decider here.

In fact, based on this alone I would say the headers are benefitting. This new flash is absolutely rediculous, the pump tune feels like the old race tune, we will see in the spring.

Austin also doesn’t have a Heat Exchanger.

So it should really be interesting come spring! Maybe some sub 11.5 second slips.

How could the headers help?

Nobody has yet explained what they do to help. Does it make the 1320 grow bigger?

Because that’s your restriction.

You just said yourself that his time and your time showed him to be better. You had a short time advantage that you lost over the course of the run, including seeing him go around you, via his MPH.

So why are the headers suddenly helping and gaining from this new file?

He has a much improved flash, which is clearly shown some amazing numbers, yet he ran the same time as me when I was on old flash.

Can’t wait for spring!

You’ll need to go quicker than that…

Jeff, Send me some logs… You’ve been holding out :stuck_out_tongue: Would like to review… Thanks!

There’s no doubt in my mind the car is .25 quicker.

Actually Ron I thought I sent some to you? Maybe it was someone else, I am packing with family leaving for Dominican in 4 hours so I will do so upon my return.

I think the car def has more in it, we will have to see what happens at the strip.

Austin is on stock cats, stock rotors, stock heat exchanger and he’s got the Dunlop 255’s which weigh 28lbs and I believe he said his TE37 are 22lbs (19x9.5)…

I’ll be shocked if they found that much in additional tuning but that would be great if they did!

Nah, you didn’t send me any recent ones… No problem… Have an awesome trip and enjoy yourself…
