Some results from Wed Night Fun Drag: Audi Night Sponsored by JHM

For those of you who care and for those of us who just don’t live anywhere near Sac Raceway, I though I would give a short recap of the nights events.

I know the guys at JHM wanted to thank everyone that came out. It seemed to be a real strong showing.

Last weeks event was canceled and postponed due to rain, considering this was the make up day and one day before the holiday, it was nice to see so many cars made it out. From what I was told, it was almost 30 cars total. There was a little bit of everything there. I’ll get a more accurate account of the cars when I can but from what I was told there was an S4 from every group with several B5 S4s, B6 S4s, B7 S4s, B8 S4s and a real strong turn out for the 2.0T A4 guys including, the first ever fun run of the stage 3 JHM 2.0T A4. More on that car in a minute. There was also a local JHM tuned RS4 that made it along with a few other JHM cars, one of them being the JHM supercharged stage 1 S5.

For me, I was looking to share some of the results and focus on two of the JHM cars. I know there is a lot of excitement with the 2.0t guys over the possible stage 3 kit from JHM and then there is the JHM stage 1 supercharged S5 kit.

To give you an idea on how the cars were all running last night, the B8 S4s that were there, were running in the low 13 range all night. I think one guy managed to break into the 12s at one point. The B5 guys were ranging from 14s to low 13s, the B6 and B7 S4s were in the 13s. I don’t know the mods on any of the cars I mentioned above, I was just offering their results as a reference.

The cars I do know something about:

There was a local RS4 guy with a stock exhaust and a JHM tune. I believe it was his first time at the track. He went 12.8@110.

There was the stage 1 JHM tuned 2.0t with full JHM clutch, exhaust, shifter, front mount. That car went 13.5X@100mph.

The next car was the JHM stage 1 supercharged S5, complete with the JHM 5r clutch, JHM down pipes, exhaust and shifter package.

The S5 made it’s first pass spinning the tires hard out of the hole and still the car managed to get 11.9@118. The second pass, the car launched better and it managed to get an impressive 11.84@119.28. The track apparently started to loose traction as the night went on. I don’t think the car ran more than one more pass getting similar results. The S5 was really more there just for customers to see it, than to make passes down the track.

The great thing about the stage 1 S5 is, this is the third 4.2 motor and platform this JHM stage 1 kit has been on and the results are almost always the same. You have the B6 S4 stage 1 JHM supercharger kit, getting into the high 11s at around 116 (de-tuned to save the weaker S4 motor) The RS4 stage 1 JHM supercharger kit that pushed the RS4 much deeper into the 11’s with a 118+ mph and now the S5, with the same stage 1 kit going 11.8@119. The Vortech blower and JHM stage 1 kits are showing a great amount of consistency across several platforms.

Possibly the biggest shake up of the night was the JHM stage 3 A4 2.0t car. JHM has been working on the A4 2.0t platform for well over a year now, doing lots of testing on their in house stage 1 and stage 2 cars. After taking the record for the fastest stock turbo A4, JHM started talk on something more. Enter the JHM 2.0t A4 stage 3.

From what I can see, the fastest B7 A4 2.0t was the VAST stage 3 kit from almost 7 years ago. Since then, lots of guys built stage 3 cars but nothing ever seemed to come from them. The 2.0t market hasn’t seen a faster time than the 13.3 from 7 years ago. That is, until last night.

The JHM stage 3 A4 2.0t program has been in the works for a while, with JHM looking for a productive but cost effective price performance point. Every JHM project under goes several track visits to prove the concept of parts and performance are there and working. The only scary thing is you generally don’t have a bunch of spectators for some of your first ever test pass runs. After I tried to talk Jason@JHM out of taking the stage 3 A4 2.0t to the track without even more testing, he felt they had solid hardware and the tune was good enough to show that the car had potential. Turns out that Jason@JHM was right. The first pass for the JHM stage 3 2.0t broke all the current standing 1/4 mile records. The times only got better as Jason@JHM got more seat time. The night ended with the JHM stage 3 2.0t A4 breaking the current record by quite a bit. It turned in a final time of 12.87@106, that’s new ground for the A4 guys. From what I understand, no B7 A4 2.0t has ever made it into the 12s.

Some of you might be wondering about the JHM B6 S4 built motor Stage 3 Supercharged car. That car is in a league of its own and will have its own separate track day. The results so far are light years beyond where the B6 and B7 are currently at. More to come.
