Something New...

Hey guys,

Haven’t been around in awhile as life gets busy sometimes. As some of you know I’ve been bouncing around the idea of trading in the S4 for something new… Well the time has come and I am saying goodbye to the best car I have ever owned! She will be dearly missed… :’(

However, in its place I got something that I think will keep me happy for sometime. The vehicles I had my eye on were the GTR, C63, M3, RS5’s, and 997.1 turbo. Each one of the above cars had pro’s and con’s for me.

GTR
Pro - Performance (every way imaginable dig, hwy pull, cornering, etc.); AWD; rarest of the bunch in my area
Con - performance (in Auto mode); looks (inside more so than outside - feels ricerish); cost/age as I am not willing to spend what would be necessary to pick one up new; and comfort

C63
Pro - Appearance, performance (Torque); exhaust note; exhaust note; and exhaust note
Con - Delivery time (wanted the 2014 507 pack which wasn’t going to be available till Jan/Feb in the configuration I wanted); Transmission not a twin clutch; RWD + low end torque in the winter not so good; Interior, though better than the GTR, not as nice as what I’m used to; and no real incentives to buy (2014 models have 5.9 lease and max discount of $500-$1,000 off MSRP)

M3
Pro - Performance (handling is great, very balanced) and power delivery was smooth and strong; Appearance always loved the exterior design; Interior, some will disagree, but the extended leather in rust brown looks amazing! dare I say better than my audi…
Con - Not as fast, in a straight line, as most of the other competitors; 2014 brings a new body style so it will be out dated in 16 months; and MSRP provides a major sticker shock once all options are selected $95k+

RS5
Pro - Beautiful; AWD system; good performance (purely based on reviews as I didn’t have the pleasure of driving it); and Interior quality
Con - Again no real incentives offered; 3 month wait for my configuration; Not as different as the other options (obviously)

997.1
To be fair I just couldn’t bring myself to pay close to $100k for 5-6 year old car

So those where the contenders lets see who knows me the best and can guess which one I chose… lol

my guess is m3 because the prices are lower since a new model is coming out?

^^^But he mentioned that to get one fully optioned, it’s mental expensive.

I would say it’s pretty easy…he bought either the C63 or the M3…because he wrote the most about those.

GTR is overkill for a daily driver
RS5 he didn’t even bother to drive
997 he dismissed due to cost

I would say M3 based on his personality. He seems to want a car that can dance around and the M3 sure can. Conflicts with the point about cost though.

For me from that list, it could only be the AWD car, and it could therefore only be the RS5 since I’m not going to buy a GTR (don’t like them even though they’re the best car on earth) or a Porsche (so cliche, and I’m 6’5" so that’s out)

C63 close behind, but going from AWD to RWD is a nightmare that I won’t ever do with a car over 400 hp. it’s just a waste of time.

Here’s my scientific analysis of your list

GTR isn’t a great daily. Haven’t driven one but I’ve ridden shotgun. Crazy performance but everything else is lacking.

C63. I really like this car. Very enjoyable to drive. Get the PP and tune it if you can’t wait for the 507. I think the main difference is it just has a couple more forged parts (which the PP has anyways?) and higher hp. Have you seen the current interior? They changed it in 2012, looks pretty sharp now.

M3. Pretty cool. Not as good as a c63 or rs5 IMO.

RS5. Haven’t driven one but it would be at the top of my list, Lots of power, great transmission, great interior, great looks.

997.1 I dunno, all porsches look the same to me, only ever driven a boxster.

If it was me I would be choosing between the c63 coupe and rs5

It does seem though that he was smitten with the C63 exhaust note. I may change my vote. I still say it’s one of those two.

whatever it is, do you want to bring it to the dragstrip tomorrow night? A few guys are going. supposed to be reasonably cool (22 degrees is the high).

I’m gonna say C63

Yes I did write the most about those two but I did plan on making this into a game before I wrote it…

Yes you can.

Won’t have it by then but nice try…

true, and you could just be gaming now with reply#6

That is true as well…

In all honest the only car I scratched early on was the 997.1 as I agree with others that most porsches look the same since before the 996’s.

OK. I’m tired of here. Bye!

RS5.

You just couldn’t leave the Audi world because you love so much reading and posting on AZ lmao!!

RS5.

Come on, bear - level with us.

The only drawback I can see to the RS5 for you is speed. Easy to make the c63 retard fast. Still gotta wait a bit for the rs5 to have that option.

I’ll say the 63 makes the most sence. You’re current car is a 4 door. This is the only other 4 door car.

The gtr isn’t a great car. Its fast but plastic…The m3 I don’t believe you can get that in a 4 door and given the rs5 looks m3 like but with better options I don’t see you going to the m3. The 997 is a nice car but money wise the rs5 is much newer and more exciting for less.

Logic says you’ll stick with a 4 door. Second stage logic says. The rs5- still has awd, power wise in it’s stock form is just as fast as a modified S4. Dependent on your location rwd didn’t sound like it would due the winter task for you. So then based on that this is the next logical car choice on your list.

You guys bring up some great point! Almost makes me think I may have made the wrong decision…

In the end I picked up the M3! The handle and overall performance was fantastic! I didn’t really notice the lack of torque everyone points out about the M3. I know it’s not as fast as my S4 but for now I’m cool with that. I think the styling is really classic and not overly aggressive like the new C63 or ricey like the GTR. The extended brown leather is super nice and just brings the interior together nicely.

It’s funny I really wanted the RS5 but every dealer I went to either didn’t have it or had it in a warehouse somewhere and wouldn’t do anything until I put a deposit down. It was also weird that every dealer who knew my S4 was modded recommended I skip the RS5 for the S6. They must be reading AZ! lol! I looked briefly at the S6 and though I know it would be a monster it just felt a bit big for my liking.

Actually, the C63/GTR were tired for my least favourite. The interior of both seemed a bit cheap… and I really don’t think I could get used to the seat controls being mounted near the door handle on the C63. The torque on the C63 was cool but even with the LSD it spun the tires way more than I like. The real deal breaker was the transmission! coming from the stronic you could really noticed the difference in shift speed and response on a regular auto! The GTR on the other hand was a great purposed built race car but not a daily driver no matter how amazed I was about its performance.

In the end I’m still very happy with my decision though I may test drive a RS5 just to see what I passed up. In any event, I seriously doubt they could, or would be willing, to match the deal I got on the M. ;D

Cool! Pics! Future mod plans! Go!

Congrats, man. So I assume you went with the DCT?

Oh ya, and of course . . .

No mods for now. I want to enjoy the warranty for now. One think I was surprised about was the lack of exhaust note! In contrast the best part of the C63 was the exhaust note!

To be honest I know zero about mods on a BMW so once I educate myself my outlook may change…
