Soooo.....went to the strip tonight

First off, I will NEVER rent a helmet ever again!!! My hair smells like piss.

Went to Great Lakes Dragaway for test and tune tonight.
47 degrees
12mph headwind
DA: 87 feet

Did a total of 8 runs, with my best run being the 4th. I do not have intake spacers so I really think that was killing me. Even letting the car sit with the hood open for 20 minutes did not do anything but get it even hotter. This was my first time ever going to the dragstrip so I think I did pretty good.

This was against a Duramax. No video of this run. Well there is video but the stupid truck hides me the whole way lol

Here is all the runs in order in this format: 60’/ET/MPH
2.017/13.52/101.3
1.966/13.26/104.55
1.962/13.266/105.18
1.888/13.25/104.84
2.008/13.458/104.08
2.038/14.759/80.94 (missed 3rd)
1.927/13.429/104.46
1.916/13.854/102.13
(You can see how the car got slower and slower as time went on. I did the first 2, then 10min cool down, then the next 2 and a 20min cool down, then the last 4)

Question for those that go a lot…
-Do you notice one side of the track being “faster” for you? All of my best times are in one lane
-Do people at these places always treat anything not domestic like shit?

Yes, the car I was up against was an LS1 Miata. 2.134 60’ and it still did a 12.86@115

Updated the mods in my signature

Nice 60’. 1.8 is not shabby at all. Do you have the LC on your tune? I’m guessing that depends where you go, but it seems douches are everywhere now days. When I went to the track in San Diego (just an 1/8 mi track) I got complements on my car. Out here in Colorado the only time i made it out there I got some nasty mean mugs. I don’t get why people are like that.

Yeah I have LA but i had issues getting traction. My rear tires are 4 year old dry-rotted PS2’s off a Porsche from ebay. Not that I’m making excuses

not bad joe! great actually for your first time. look to invest in some JHM intake spacers, really help keeping your IAT’s down and your times consistent through the night

Nice work there Joe…

Joe great results. You really need to look into the intake spacers. I know my A4 is like 4 seconds slower then your car but I saw a real differece in keeping the intake temps cool. Very consistent runs solid stuff.

you don’t get any respect with a german cars so yes you kinda get treated like crap. Wait till you put the JHM blower on. You will get tONS of respect.

some tracks have faster lanes but usually its not by much or it depends on where the lights are

YOu are a warror to rent a helmet. I don’t think I could do that.

nice work…

NED doesnt have fast lane, we have a death lane and a safe lane lol.

I think SAC had a notoriously slow lane, like a few mph lower due to a calibration issue.

I recommend tomato soup to get the smell out of your hair lol

So what did you do on the runs…launch assist on none of them? it was spinning the tires too much and giving you bad times? Or did it spin the tires on the street so much that you didn’t bother with it at the strip?

Mine spun the tires on the street, but at the strip it was excellent. The first 3-4 runs I did were 1.8…the next 3 were 1.90-1.91…and the last one was 1.82. I loved launch assist at the dragstrip.

saki… did it hook up well even in colder weather? Thats the one thing im worried about… especially with winters.

im pretty excited about going this weekend.

Still dont have a helmet though…

yeah dude with winters it was badass. Loved it.

It’s a crapshoot…it depends on temperatures, tires, track prep. You just have to go and try it out. My first run in April was a cool day like Sat will be, and I rattled off a 1.87. I used it all day after that.

Pure speculation but winters felt liked they hooked a little better with the softer compound. Mine were worn out too. having said that, my winter setup is 17" so less rotating mass.

Yeah ill swap over to my winters tomorrow they are 225/45 17’s as well.

ill say it again… my first trip to the strip EVER… im pretty pumped!

  • Yes, sometimes one lane will get worn down differently, or might not have been taken care of as well. Think of it like a bowling lane, sometimes there isn’t enough grease put down for the ball to spin properly just apply that to traction.

  • Yes

Actually that’s an FD Mazda RX-7, so don’t feel so bad.

Good times for the first time out.

All noise no go

lol who, Joe?

Yup ;D

Thanks guys. I used launch assist on all of the runs and it worked great. I might try launch on my own to see what I can do. My tires were set at 42psi front and rear and like I said, the rears are bald+dry rotted PS2’s.

lol Tom your just jelous that my car runs better and GRD didn’t fuck it up as bad as yours

What’s trex`s best time?

idk man. Bad rebuild or wheel loose cruising down the road??
Both really bad lol

My best time was 13.4 with a 2.25 exhaust and hot air intake.
