Spark Plug Choices?

So I was talking spark plugs with my brother, who has a 2008 RS4 - basically 2 fewer cylinders compared to our V10.

The RS4 uses a colder plug (NGK 5592) vs the S6 (NGK 5547). We both attributed it to the higher redline of the RS4.

Just wondering what you all run, and whether you’ve found success with any particular plug.

As for my upcoming install, I’m just going to rock the OEM NGK 5547.

OEM the RS4 plugs have an extra post on them to keep from spark jumping but other than that they are dept with and thread wise the same from what I have seen. I always suggest people get one degree cooler if your doing a tune or performance work. Or if you drive hard. If not stock is the best choice as the hotter plug will clean off faster and make for better cold starts.

Fenix,

Wanted to confirm your selection of NGK 5592 PFR7W-TG plugs for your cooler selection over OEM, and your experience with the plug. Going to pull the trigger on plugs for a tune in a month or so, wanted to ensure it’s the right plug.

Do it. It’s not the most noticeable upgrade, but will pay dividends later if you’re adding some performances. I ran OEM spec at first, but they didn’t hold up well. Switched to the 5592s and it’s runs smoother.

+1 for one range coolder plugs.

Good post GRS6. I didn’t want to say the car should run better with a colder range plug but that is my experience. Just be mindfull if your in a snow state and much colder temps you don’t want to start your car and let it idle in colder weather start and drive. Also colder plugs take longer to clean so you have to let the motor get to operation temp to start the cleaning. Keep that in mind.

I also run the 5592s. Agree with GRS6, they have held up fantastically and honestly on the hot hot days, I feel like the car runs just a bit better, say like a smoother idle in traffic, etc…may be just me but seems better. Either way, was worth it over the OEM spec in my opinion.
