If you decide to get a spare transmission and rebuild it, I would recommend a .528 (TDI) 6th gear. Not if you’re going to road course it, but I built mine to do stretches of Interstate, which it now does at 25 - 26 MPG.
Soooooooo, looks like I’m out for this weekend, but for good reason:
My daughter flew in from college in CA last night to surprise me for my birthday, so I’m thinking that I’m going to spend some quality time with her this weekend.
My next best opportunity to hit the strip is Sunday November 8th, and the long-range forecast (for what those are worth) looks good, so that’s what I’m going to aim for.
You bought a JHM rebuilt transmission and it’s fucked? Or was it from somewhere else? Ask JHM for some help. I think they owe you some goodwill…you’re probably their best customer ever.
I brought my car to Chicago Performance & Tuning back in December 2011. Al sent out the transmission to Scotty@AdvancedAutomotion to get it rebuilt. I paid Scott $3000 for all new synchros and shift collars and also 3 gears were replaced. Would have to pull the receipts to be sure but I think I remember it being 2, 3, and 4. I’ve put on maybe 15k miles since then and only really launched the car that night at Milan. So I got 1 day at the track using a Scotty transmission. Take a guess if I’ll ever go back.
One of the best at least, I remember Jake saying I had the biggest finished build to date when I picked up my car last November. However, I think that RS7 guy has me beat with his RS4 build.
Either way, when I decide to pull the trigger on the transmission, the car’s going back to JHM. I also want to have Jason lay down a time in my car at the strip and it may as well be during the winter when I can’t race it out here.
Uh oh…sorry to hear that
If I recover from this stomach bug by then, I plan on heading down to no limit raceway on sunday with a few others.
Feel free to join!
I’m still planning to head to GLD tomorrow morning…
What time?
Planning to arrive around 10 am…
