split intake manifold / cleaned / gutted flaps / re-installed - don't bother!

update:

got my POS back couple weeks ago from carbon clean and intake cleaning / splitting / gutting of busted flaps

found a chunk of a busted flap jammed into the port ‘divider’ mere cm’s from the valve - EEK! VERY HAPPY to have dodged that bullet!

retained linkages with hopes of fooling ECU

installed JHM phenolic spacer

result: idles like CRAP, loss of tq down low, nominal ‘gain’ of hp up high

conclusion: spent $200 labor to clean manifold then $ for labor to split / gut / install… only to now order a NEW manifold and re-do the install. Not happy. Sux.em

Shoulda done it right the first time. Makes no sense to me - the car should run exactly the same as it did before (well better for the carbon clean!). My flaps were heard rattling around terribly at idle and low rev’s! There was not much of anything left of the bits that were found dangling around in there. So gutting them should have had no effect, but alas here I am. Bummer.

Anywho, hope that helps others. I am VERY much looking forward to the car w/ the carbon clean / phenolic / new manifold… will report back in couple weeks when done.

Sucks to hear that…if only someone would make a billet flap actuator upgrade to eliminate this

I had my actuators removed and the car idles very smoothly—except when the SAI kicks in on startup. But it does feel down on power.

I heard rumors that JHM may be beta-testing an upgraded intake late this year. That’s what I’m waiting for

We should make sure to keep bumping this thread and find all the other posts where guys did the same thing and got the same results. I know we have more people who got the same crappy missfire issue after removing the flaps than have not had any issues from removing them. I did a search to try and help find all the guys who posted with issues but they are burried in posts. I remember a few years ago this happened to like 4 people in a row.

I think we all know removal of the flaps will kill power but to help Ill post another quote from a flap removal guy maybe we can keep this thread going or alive for others to see

As a update i removed my intake manifold and i found one of the fuel pipes on the drivers side was loose so i tightened it, i still have misfires on cylinder 4, 5, 9, 10

so i changed my intake manifold i installed a flap free intake manifold from my old motor and immediately there was a loss of power at low revs car is not picking up like before and the misfires are still there,

so far i have swapped the spark plugs and coils within the same engine and the misfires are still happening on these 4 cylinders, i swapped the injectors from my old motor and put them in my new motor still the same misfires, i haven’t done injector cleaning. i just put full tank and added some injector cleaner fluid in the tank still the same issue. I now have two oxygen sensor that have failed. here are there locations. Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B2 S1 and Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B4 S2 please advice there exact locations can i change them myself or does the engine have to come out.
