Good to see LA get through. I like that team. I dislike the sharks for some reason. Never liked Joe Thornton. Especially ever since he trash talked the Rangers last year.

^^ don’t really know much about minnesota - just that they’re a lower seed than the hawks. didn’t pay much attention to the regular season this year. definitely looking forward to game 1, though!
Hockey players trash talk each other all of the time. If I had kids, they would wear ear plugs when attending hockey games. That quote Joe made to the press, however, I totally agree, it’s never wise to smack talk anyone, it just motivates the target of the trash talk to play that much better or harder when the two teams meet up.
That said, Rangers weren’t that great in 2003-2004. Who wasn’t on that team it was like an all star line-up. On paper, they should have won everything. but they couldn’t make the playoffs.
I love watch Joe Thornton play during the regular season. He just can’t seem to play as well in the playoffs. I don’t know if it’s a nervous issue or if it is because everyone else steps it up around him. I don’t know.

Yeah to slag another team off in the press showed a certain weakness for Joe. We have seen that weakness manifest itself in Thornton whenever San Jose or Boston before that reached the playoffs and made early exits with him leading the charge. When he was at his peak in say 2006 and leading Canada at the Olympics, they collapsed.
Torterella and his thumb addressed Thornton’s comment very eloquently with “Joe hasn’t won a THING in this league so he should just shut his mouth”
It speaks to the culture where if you’re a supposed superstar without a cup, it reflects very poorly on your career and becomes something that will be attacked if you step out of line.
Can’t argue with that, even as a Sharks fan. Perennial chokers! Aaaaarrrrrrgh!
