Stock exhaust resonators or secondary cats

So my exhaust is stock apart from some sports mufflers as Rear cans. Those just interfere with a rear bracket so I am getting them slightly adjusted to stop the rattle.

I really enjoy the sound of those mufflers but they are still quite quiet. The guys at the shop are going to adjust and get rid of the rattle. I asked them about while they are there could we up the noise a tad.

The exhaust is 100% stock apart from the end cans (which are straight throughs) so there are still 2 sets of what looks like mufflers or secondary cats in the system. I know we have cats in the headers, are there secondary Cats in the stock system? We don’t have any rules here on emissions so cats are easily dumped. The first set look more like a cat compared to the second much longer mufflers in the middle of the car.

anyone tried messing with only one set? I have found plenty of people who have removed all mufflers but that’s Gona be too loud for my daily driver that parks under my 7month old bedroom. :yum:

those are resonators…

If I was hacking a custom set at a muffler shop, I’d cut out the mid resonators and replace with an X pipe and replace the end cans like you did.

I cut out the pre-resonators and the rest of the system back to the OE mufflers, run 3" pipes and x-pipe. It’s NOT too loud at all. If you were conservative, you could retain the front resonators they take a slight bit of the edge / bark off. I’ve run it both ways, both sound good… this way sounds GREAT 8-).

HTH.

BTW, crap they use nowadays lasted 2yrs to the day, rotted out had to re-do.

I agree with the other guys. Just take out the first set of resonators and see how you like that from there you can always take out more.

She’s in the shop today - will let you know how it goes.

So - it’s a rather massive differencere.

The guys re hung the Rear sports mufflers, then removed the move Rear set of resonators (longer ones) and replaced it with straight tubing.

The sound is the same but volume I would say is about double, mainly on low end throttle application.

I would not want louder put it that way
