Stranded on the side of the road

And my luck continues!

I was driving home today and suddenly, I start hearing loud ticking (stopped at a red light). I turn down the radio and realize it’s me. I look back in my rear view mirror and I see the road on one side looks quite wet. At first I’m like “no…can’t be”. A second later, some guy behind me starts honking. I pull over to the side of the road as my display beeps loudly about the engine not having any oil.

Long story short, I lost all of my oil on the road and I’m now waiting for the flatbed tow truck to show up and tow me to the mechanic. Sigh…

As for what it is, I’m hoping it’s only the oil cooler hose. Two weeks ago, the hose was leaking and it was fixed but it may have disconnected again. I just hope no permanent damage on the engine occurred. The engine wasn’t running above 1500 rpms and by the time I pulled over, there was still some oil leaking out underneath the car so I hope there was just enough left to keep things well lubricated.

Had to call the fire department and have them clean everything up as it was everywhere.

Arghh…so frustrating…

Man bud that sucks! I really feel for you… Hopefully, no motor issues and it’s a hose or something that is easy to fix…

Christ man. What the hell did you do to deserve all this bad karma?

Hopefully its just something easy peasy. I’m tired of seeing you have all these issues
fingers crossed

Oh man, that sucks for you. I hope you get rescued and to the bottom of this soon. Keep us posted, fingers crossed for you.

Mate that blows…I know how you feel though, hope you are able to get her back up and running soon

Sorry man, hope everything works out. I’ve seen a lot of your posts though and I think you should possibly look for a new mechanic, seems like you have more trouble with your car than anything.

^–don’t take this the wrong way, I’m not disrespecting you, just food for thought.

Hope it’s nothing but if you heard knocking not a positive sign…all the best

Well, the bogging issue had nothing to do with my mechanic. Nor the MAF sensor getting dirty, nor my endlinks breaking, nor the clutch hydraulics. They’re all related to the added mods or standard wear and tear.

For the bogging issue, he went way above and beyond and tried a million things before JHM contacted us telling us they needed to do a hardware upgrade on the ECU.

I have faith in my mechanic, it’s just stuff that comes with the territory of heavy modding.

damn sucks to see this, had a similar mishap before… in my experience when the oil pressure drops enough the car will beep loudly at you and flash the red bottle, did this happen to you?

Yup, as I was pulling over.

opps, missed that the first time I read the op. Its a good sign if you still had oil pressure until the last few moments

Wow, sorry to hear Axel. Which hose were you having an issue with.

Where in the RPM range were you getting bogging? I’ve got a weird hesitation at 3k-4k RPMs with my tune, and I haven’t really wanted to wring on it above 4k til I figure it out. Most people said the JHM tune REDUCED their hesitation, but since swapping my GIAC to JHM I got this weird little fall-off on the powerband.

How did you decide it was a firmware upgrade needed?

It was consistently between 2k and 3k rpms. The second it would hit 3k rpms, it would completely go away. But it wasn’t just simple hesitation. It was complete bogging. Felt like no fuel was getting to the motor at all.

JHM are the ones that said I needed to send my ECU back for a hardware upgrade (rather than another chip). Best to talk to them and give them as much info as possible. Remotely diagnosing something is tough so they need to know every little detail.

Good luck!

Can’t tell you exactly which hose. I’ll provide more info on Monday hopefully.

Interestingly there arer a few rs4s that have had a similar loss of oil from a line. I believe it was from two lines touching each other and rubbing till it wore a hole over time.

heard this too… summit and other sites sell -an line seperators that you could throw in to keep the lines from touching… nice cheap solution.

Funny, I remember reading about it and thinking ‘if I ever get an rs4 I’m doing that right away’.

Oops.

Guess I’ve got some homework this morning lol.

if you can measure the outside diameter of the lines I can point you towards something once I get out of work

On the RS4 they are AN12 size.
