Strange issue with AMI/cd changer

So… None of the electronics in the glove box have worked since I’ve owned the car; I was more interested in hearing that lovely exhaust note! Had some time to drop the glovebox over the weekend (car back from the body shop!), and noticed they’re both plugged in with the “analog” plugs on the back but both opticals are pulled out with loopbacks installed.

Unplugging either of the loopbacks kills the whole radio, display and center console buttons. Cycling ignition sees the console lights light up along with the audi logo on the display and then………nothing. Dark.

I tried both plugged in and plugged in one at a time and neither unit seems to be working. Does AMI need a working changer to function? Pretty sure the changer is dead; doesn’t even light up, but not sure about the AMI.

Anyone have any ideas?

Inoperative changer breaks the link in the MOST ring. That’s my guess and I’m sticking with it…

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOST_Bus:
“As with its fibre counterparts, closing or completing the ring (termination at the originating device) is required for any and all network operation.”

…that’s what I figured, but the AMI also not working had me confused. I guess it’s dependent on the changer?

Are you able to communicate at all with the Vag com to the module.

Carista says no - been an error code on the cd changer from day 1. The AMI, I’m not really sure - IIRC, says media player position 2 unavailable or somesuch. I can’t find any info on whether the AMI is dependent on the CDChanger to function or not, but I’d guess so since it’s an either/or on the selector? I’ve never seen it work, so really no idea how it’s supposed to work. Can confirm that there’s no power to the 40pin though with an old iPhone 3GS

With Vag com you can activate and ping modules and then check feedback but from the sound of the wire job it seems that you have some mystery issues going on that someone tired to cover up
