Stupid Question (Battery change)

Hey guys im installing a Dash cam soon and want to upgrade the battery anyways. I was thinking of going yellow top Optima. I thought i read that its not a direct swap and i may have to make brackets for it to fit. Is this true? Has anyone replaced thier battery with an Optima without problems? Any insight is welcome. Thanks!

Which dash cam are you going with?

I really need a dash cam. But I don’t need a flat battery.

Why the yellow top optima?

Itronics ITB-100 SPW HD. It stays on even when the car is off and has wireless capability. I wanted to run the yellow because someone recommended it if your running power to something when the car is off. Im open to suggestions on other batteries. From just a quick browse it seemed the Optima yellow was lighter than my OEM and is deep cycle for cold weather and when my camera is always running.

I ran the yellow top in my car, they are a good battery with a great warranty.

Did you have any issues with it fitting? I thought i read somewhere they dont fit right and a bracket needs to be made to hold it.

It went right in. It’s definitely smaller and lighter than stock, but the oem side bracket still clamped down on it fine.

If the yellow top size is the same as the red, Nick has a write up here:
(I am assuming you have a S4)

I spent a lot of time figuring out which battery to by for my RS, and eventually splurged and bought an Odyssey. Read a lot of mixed reviews on the Optima line. Some love them, and a lot of people say their quality has gone down since they were bought out by Johnson Controls. I had a red top in a vehicle and it lasted at least 5 years through Alberta winters. If it lasts, the yellow would be a good choice as you know due to its better deep cycle capabilities although the Odysseys have better deep cycling as well.

I replaced mine with a yellow top and haven’t had any issues. You do have to flip it around to line the terminals up. If you’re up north I would make sure you have enough juice to fire it up on those really cold days?

I may have read that the Yellowtop is smaller. Not sure. I also heard when JC took over the quality went to shit.

Which odyssey do you have? They make a lighter deep cycle battery as well?

^It is smaller, but it’s smaller in width (passenger to driver) and it’s the same in depth (front of car to back of car). So it still fits in the factory mount.

Dont know how to give karma points but you were right. Fit right in now problem. Yellow was installed over the weekend.

You can give karma once you become a member (i.e., enough posts). For now, gratitude and thanks work.

Oh ok. Thanks. I had no idea there was such a process lol.

click the ‘applaud’ button. Or ‘smite’

When im member right? Because i dont see it right now…unless im a dumbass lol

post 114 more times and you’ll be good to go

Gotcha. Thanks

If your looking for a good lightweight battery look into the braille battery. They are super light. I went yellow top optioma for winter months. It’s still light the good part is they can take a drain and recharge better then most batteries.

The post count needs to be 150 then all the good stuff happens. It seems like a lot but it comes quick.
