Sudden Misfires

Hi everyone!
I have a 2008 A6 4.2L. It was driving fine yesterday and then all of a sudden it started to shake when idling or at low RPMs. CEL was on and flashing only when low RPMs and shaking. Checked codes and got the following:

p0305
p0306
p0307
p0308
for misfires in cylinders 5-8

p0300
for random misfire

p0014
p0024
for camshaft position timing over-advanced banks 1 and 2

p0171
p0174
for system too lean banks 1 and 2
have had this code for a while though because of a minimal intake leak

Anyone know what might be wrong here?

If you have a vag com. Post the full data. You can do this by hitting copy codes. then pasting them in this forum.

With the 4.2 motor you have to be aware of the timing system. Now many miles are on the motor

About 157,000 on the motor. I’m thinking it might be the VVT? The first owner put aftermarket VVTs in and my luck with the aftermarket parts in this car has been rough

yeah at about 150x you need to do the timing components. espically if your getting a cam code.

Which components, Justin?

He is a 4.2 not a 5.2. The 4.2 has well documented guide and cam adjuster issues. about the 150k range your guides on the 4.2 are going to be cracked broken or just missing. The can adjuster and sprocket generally are done as well.

It’s a general condenses that you need to do a full timing service on the 4.2 at about 120k

Thanks for the clarification, Justin.
