About 3 or 4 months ago, my airbag light came on. I didn’t really pay any attention to it, with the hope in the back of my mind that whatever the problem is would be resolved if/when my airbags were recalled. I never got a code read on the actual issue, so I’m not sure what component triggered the error. Anyways, yesterday I got a letter from Audi saying that my airbags are being recalled, as I pretty much expected. The solution isn’t available yet, I’m supposed to wait for a followup letter apparently. Have any other C6 A6/S6 owners here had airbag lights come on, and subsequently had them resolved with an airbag recall replacement?
Same here, my letter says passenger front airbag “can rupture”. Obviously the defect isn’t causing the airbag light, because how would the ECU know about a potential rupture… but I’m hoping having the recall replacement performed might fix whatever is causing the airbag light in my case. I’ll shoot JHM an email and see if they can pull the code to see what exactly triggered it
Its across a few platforms. I know a few B7 A4 guys who got a letter. I dont think anyone gets a light for it tho.
I get a airbag light on cold cold days. I dont think you see many of those out there but generally in cold weather the electronics have issues until the car cabon warms up
My came on and has stayed on since, it hasn’t been intermittent. With a little luck hopefully it’s caused by an issue (unrelated to the recall) with the passenger airbag, and will get resolved by proxy when the recall replacement happens. Otherwise hopefully I don’t need to buy a new airbag to get the light to go off, I’ve heard those aren’t too cheap. I sent JHM an email since my car is currently in their hands, hopefully they have some insight into what part of my airbag system is unhappy.
They should be able to pull the code and see whats going on. A constant air bag light sounds lilke it might be something different. Still like you said with the recall maybe it will get fixed just by proxy
Did you get the Airbag light resolved? Did you have any codes? My 09 S6 has the airbag light on constantly (not blinking) and there is the following code:
9441307 - Rear; passenger’s side; side-airbag igniter
B1010 1B [136] - Resistance Too High
MIL ON - Intermittent - Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00000001
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 4
Not yet, light is still lit solid. Supposedly Audi was going to send me something to let me know when I could go in to get my recalled airbag issue fixed, but I haven’t heard anything yet. I’m not sure what codes I’ve got, if any, haven’t really spent much time working on my car lately
The airbag light and the code did come on in December but the temps were not very cold here in Georgia.
It is my understanding that my airbag light/fault code is completely different from the issue with the Takata passenger side airbag recall.
An independent shop looked at my car ('09 S6) and he somehow determined that the error code means that the actual igniter is bad on the airbag, which he identifies as the rear passenger thorax airbag, which is apparently inside the passenger side front seat. He quoted ~$300 to get the replacement airbag from Germany and another ~$350 or so to replace it since the seat has to be disassembled.
I have an appointment with an Audi dealership tomorrow (over an hour away) for them to look at this. They explained that they do not have the parts for the Takata recall at this point but they will diagnose why my airbag light is on.
I’ve asked them to look at the code from my VAG COM and tell me if they can fix it but they don’t want to do a thing until they get the car and scan it themselves. I can’t tell if they are just being smart in trying to correctly diagnose the issue or greedy.
Does anyone else have this error code? Does anyone else know if the error is dangerous?
the takata airbag problem was more to do with deployment of the airbag causing a mini explosion that sends shards of metal at the passenger’s face at 100 mph, killing a few people and maiming many others.
you won’t get an airbag light for it. You’ll just get a sore face.
Agree that the Takata issue won’t throw a light. Regarding the Takata recall: the local Audi dealer told me that, while my car is listed for the recall to replace front passenger airbag, I shouldn’t worry because the bags that had problems came out of Mexico and our bags came out of Germany. Has anyone else heard this story?
