Thanks for all the great info guys. The few I have been looking at are all at the low end of the price spectrum. 65k to 75k. So that being said and taking the other stuff into consideration (headers and mounts which I knew nothing about being a problem) Maybe holding out for the right R8 to come along might be the better option. Or cross my fingers that Gallardos continue to depreciate closer to my range.
a friend was looking at the R8 V8 as well and ended up falling in love with a new Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT (N430). You can find used V8 Vantages however for reasonable money and they’re rarely driven. They actually have a Certified Pre Owned unlimited mile 3 year warranty too…
Although the Ferrari and lambo is more experience and fun to drive this is nice mix with decent reliability. A lot of people prefer a gt3 over this car but hey v10
He describes owning a Ferrari like the way that I describe owning any high end European car. So much fun when it is good but a PITA other times. Kind of like dating a supermodel.
By the way, why is it always the hottest/most attractive cars/girls that have the weirdest problems.
His Lambo video is funny too.
I don’t actually like Porsches. They are squished toads and I don’t think the performance is worth the money. Everyone raves about how well Porsches handle and I am not really impressed.
I wouldn’t say all Porsches. I hear it a lot people going from lambos to Ferraris and then they try 911 turbo or heck even gt2 yet people have the most fun and typically keep the gt3 and gt3 rs. Cayman gt4 is no slouch either
I will agree that if its not a GT series and even at that point the soul of a F car L car and even an r8 are slightly higher Juarez based on the aurals. Some people say all of the above are nowhere near as fun or reliable as a gt3 even when faster cars are available.
I’m a Porsche and Audi fan for air but I’ve thought about adding a Ferrari 550 12 cyl as it stirs the soul especially with the 6 speed and it’s known as a more reliable Ferrari. It’s not necessarily fast but 0-60 in 4.2 ain’t that slow and once moving its a v12 Ferrari it’s not bad. Even tho a modified r8 rs4 would destroy it id say the soul is a different level? Who am I kidding ends of the day and money no object it would be nice to have all of the different experiences all good in different ways…
In all fairness, you’re asking Audi people their opinion on a Ferrari… We bought our S & RSs as the jack-of-all-trades, and we love our practicality.
You don’t buy a Ferrari for practicality, or to be faster, or to save money…you buy a Ferrari for the driving experience. You must have no delusions about any of those things. As Saki pointed out very well, you just need to be aware that ‘owning’ a Ferrari is very different than ‘buying’ a Ferrari. Buyers go nuts over records and dealer maintenance. I would love to own a 360 at one point; I’ll do all the work myself, kill the resale value, and not a single f*ck will be given. I drove a 360CS a couple weeks ago and I still can’t get that sound out of my head…it’s intoxicating.
This. Too bad the CS is well over 200k vs the vanilla 360, still a cool cars. For everyday I’d do a 430, for a more practical Ferrari but not as racy grab a 550 wth v12 while you can 6 speed manual and still does 0-60 in 4.2 so not bad I’m trying to find one in the future but it’s harder now at least for under 100k…
finding any of the reasonably recent (10 years) Ferraris in a manual is tough…and getting tougher. Because they’re rocketing up in value.
i.e. there was a Ferrari California that sold for $400,000 at auction because it had a manual and I think only 3 or 4 were sold in America. So dumb. 3 years ago when it was new, nobody wanted manual. now everyone’s bidding their face off for them.
It all comes in cycles right? I was close to bidding on a 99 550 it was a driver not a concourse but he had buy it now at 60k, it sold within 24 hours Miami. The two ferraris I would want right now are either that or the 360 challenge however the money doesn’t make sense when a 430 is arguably cheaper with a manual more reliable and faster than both.
I want to try to like the gallardo they just don’t fly under the radar Enough, a G with a manual would be nice but at that price point I’d get an r8 or poney up for a heavy murci v12.
Assuming you have 80-150k to plan with there are some decent drivers out there, I’m also thinking abut taking you up on buying a car from Canada. I saw some rs7s for 70k usd or less as well as some gt3 for less than 90k.
