Talk me in or out of a Ferrari 360

So I’m seriously contemplating selling the RS4 back to the previous owner, ( who actually offered to give me what I paid plus all the mods I have put into it) Giving me just over 33k at this point. I have for years wanted to own a 360. I have never driven one however. Between what I have saved and what I could sell the RS4 for I’d be under 15k to finance and could definitely swing the deal. I would really really miss the RS4, but it’s a childhood dream I’d be fulfilling. Let’s hear the pros and cons. I can’t possibly stand to watch another Doug Demuro video of living with a Ferrari…

Go for it. TBH if you can afford the potential maintenance it’s a pretty cool thing. Most of us have some sort of dream to have a ferrari or lambo, can’t put a price on fulfilling that. Well, you can lol, but you know what I mean.

Timing service in a 360 is done in the car now. The rear panel behind the seats comes off for access. If I was able to do chains on my s4 I’m not terribly afraid to work on a Ferrari. An F1 gearbox on the other hand is a big no. It will have to be a manual. However, a 4.2 R8 is in the same price range. It’s a tough decision. I still have more I’d like to do with the RS4. I’m just afraid I’ll make a bad decision and end up unhappy. The RS4 still makes me smile, and it’s practical.

My cousin had a 360 and traded it in for a 430. TBH the 360 is dated, underpowered and IMO not worth the trade. Not much else i can tell you.

360 coupe is cool. Why not? It’s just a car. Calling it dated is funny… It’s a Ferrari. There’s no such thing as a dated Ferrari. Frankly the 430 is almost identical.

Just know that if you do any work on it yourself you are going to kill resale…

Also know that wherever you go the car will be a pain in the ass and you’ll always be worrying about it.

As for your rs4 how the fuck are you getting 30anything for it? I spoke to a dealer about mine and the trade range was 22,000-25,000 Canadian dollars. That’s about 20-23 usd.

2008 avus with 82,000 miles/135,000 kms

Sell mine for $30,000 usd for me and I will pay you $2000 commission lol

Get some BBS ch like the CS and BANG … Gorgeous

If that is what you want, then do it! You could always get another RS4 as they get cheaper.

$2000 USD commission or CAD? lol

You pick

Are you serious about selling? Because I will let people know if you are.

If 360 challenge stradasale only, otherwise f430

Unless you get stupid deal maint is a little more on a 360 and isn’t much more special unless it’s s challenge vs the 430.

You’ll notice most people end up driving awhile and becoming Ferrari enthusiast or they get back in a gt3 or gt2 and are happier

That’s a good point. I know 2 people who have owned ferraris (360 and 458) and they both traded them for 911 turbos.

That being said, I think it will be a pretty fun experience to own a ferrari, even if you get something different a year or two later. Go for it!!!

this

Yes overall the 430 is actually a nice blend and you can daily easier than even a gt3 or gt2, the 360 is somewhere in the middle and if manual I’d consider the Ferrari and lambo are experiences and do us the Porsche GT series pros and cons. If you can afford both there’s that, and as it says you only live once…

With the theme of the thead talk you out of the ferrari…

Ill start with the pro point

Its a ferrari

now the real life wake up call points

The 360 is nice and still has ferrari appeal but depending on your RS4 mods you kinda trading the car in for a slower car that makes less power.

The 360 is like a much slower corvette. Its nice but it sucks for a DD. Its nice to drive for a while but its nice to drive when you have something like a RS4 to go back to and drive everyday.

The 360 is impractical Vs the RS4 even more so if you live in a snow state.

You modded your RS4 and i dont see the mod list in your signiture but modding the 360 is 5x the cost to do almost anything

Maintance is more expensive but more so. If you even think about selling the car down the road and you did the work yourself you just destroyed your resell value.

When you do get cought up and maybe have an issue with parts that go like AC or alt
its going to get you and your paying the ferrarri tax

Also if your working on your RS4 its more complicated to diagnose things Vs the audi where you can just plug in your vag cable and come on the forum to talk to the other guys who all work on there car.

Think about the RS4 side of it. That is a very high end car that the past owner is willling to pay you top dollar to get the car back. He went and sold the car bought something else he thought he would love and now he is coming back for your car.

Sure you can sell the RS4 but can you find one in great condtion again for a good price… Also manual cars and V8 cars are looking to get phased out. The RS4 price is going to go up if you ask me once the manual cars start to phase out. The RS4 is a rare car and its going to get more rare and I think more expensive over time here soon. So I dont think it will be as easy as you think to replace it.

A very good friend of mine gave this quote when someone asked him why he bought an audi (he bought an older V10 S8) and not a ferrari as this question has been floated recently. What he said makes sense and I think is fun to share.

Quote.

Ferrari is like that stunningly hot girl you see all shined up in the movie to look sexy. Its meant to make you think oh man Id love to have sex with her. But once you do all the work to over pay to wine dine and get her to have sex with her…you find out sex was nice… you liked sounds she made…she felt good but… she looks more like good sex then she really is…then what. You find out thats it… thats all it is.

You cant take her to the store without everyone else wanting to ride her and you realize that she dosent function properly in the real world anyway. She is high maintantence you get sick of her talking after a while and if she breaks a nail itll cost you a weeks paycheck to sort it out. She isnt a dress down kind of girl and dont even think about trying to go anywhere with her if your dirty or have muddy shoes it just seems wrong… You find it its just sex

Now an Audi. Still looks sexy but it looks sexy in dress down and night on the town configuration. The Audi is a sex in the kitchen kinda car a lets go and eat cheese burgers in sweats after words kinda car. The Audi is sexy still fast and functional and something that you want to show your friends. You know they still want her but they will actually listen to her talk and not thinks shes an air head that is completly out of toutch with the real world.

Sure the audi will take a little more work to get the sex apeal out of and iit might cost a nice chunk to get the power you want out but when you spend the time to get the car shined up and go out for a night on the town you can do everything in her and always be comfortable have fun and if all goes well you might just get some action in the car both performance race wise and sex wise. Try having sex in the back seat of a ferrarri…

Just thought that was a funny share

This was amazing! Thank you. So here is the scoop on the previous owner. He has spent the last few years as a contractor over seas. He just now moved back home. The car sale was done by a 3rd party for him. Turns out we have mutual friends and stayed in touch. But no shit, he offered what I paid plus all my mods. Tune exhaust stasis coil overs etc. I let him drive it a week ago and when he came back he made the offer. It’s a hard decision for sure.

How good deal on 360

Haha the audi is a sex in the kitchen kind-of car

That’s a great quote, I fell like I’ve heard that somewhere

Ferraris’ are all great but they tend to be more one-sided. It’s normal to want something new, different and all Ferraris’ have an allure but the RS4 allows you all of the sport, passion acceleration, looks and is very expandable.

From my experience. Ferraris’ are great to drive not great to own.

you often hear older people talk about grandchildren with absolute glee. The common line you hear is ‘If I know they were this much fun I would have had grandchildren first’

What I gather from that is that the real beauty of a grandchild is that you get to have short bursts of fun with them, and then give them back to the parents to deal with all the bullshit lol

that’s kind of like Ferraris or most any 10+ year old exotic. They’re awesome to drive for an hr, but when the hr is up and you get to hand it back and then drive your ‘normal’ car it’s a relief. When you own the Ferrari 24/7 you are opened up to a whole new world of problems you’d never have heard of before.

Basically my advice to people who ask this question is two pronged

  1. you only live once, so why not
  2. make sure you can afford a Ferrari that is 50% more expensive than the one you’re buying becuase buying a ferrari at the edge of affordability will assuredly lead to being squeezed financially by the car at some point

i.e. the 360 modena has notoriously shitty engine mounts. The engine vibrations burn through mounts in half the time we’d see on an RS4 or something similar. Flat crank design of the engine is part of the reason. When they go, the whole car becomes a vibrator and rattles parts loose. The big PITA is the beautifully displayed exhaust headers…they crack when too much vibration is transferred. So much so that Ferrari made it a 10 year warranty part. Those 10 years are expired. So the bill is yours

When that happens, the $60,000 Ferrari becomes a $70,000 ferrari because it’s about $10 grand for new headers installed (DIY will save you some but Ferrari parts are still insane)

So if you can afford a $90,000 ferrari, and have another more reliable car to drive, sure go get it. If not, I’d think long and hard about it.

Good advice saki!

Agreeing with the sentiment here… Unless you have tons of disposable income I would relegate the ferrari to rental category. Way too flashy for a daily imo.
