Tempted to replace Stasis with Milltek

Unbeknownst to me at the time of ordering my Stasis exhaust, it appears Milltek has an exhaust that might fit on my A6. It is listed for the 3.2/4.2 but I believe we have identical exhaust layouts. I’ve emailed GMG to confirm. I think I can recoup most of the money spent on the Stasis and the Milltek is even cheaper so maybe I won’t even lose anything.

Milltek is 2.36" while Stasis is 2.25" (aka same size as stock S4, .25" bigger than A6) so I would be “increasing performance” as well. Stasis is resonated while Milltek is not. I’ve had a painfully loud exhaust before and I don’t want to do it again. However, it was painfully loud resonated with NO mufflers. Will H-pipe, non-resonated, WITH mufflers be tolerable?

Also, Milltek S6 exhaust appears to be identical but with the quad-tips instead of dual. I already have the S6 bumper and valance so I plan for quad tips but the price difference is ~$400? Worth it to avoid the hassle of trying to have y-pipes + 4 tips fitted to the A6 version? CPT’s labor prices aren’t cheap so I might end up spending a decent amount on new tips and the fabrication anyways.

What are everyone’s thoughts?

Why doesn’t someone put a 2.5" exhaust on one of these? Would it really sound that bad?

My original system was 2.5" x-piped with Magnaflows. It sounded great but I removed the rear mufflers when I had the quad tips installed and then it was just crazy loud. It sounded mean as all hell but I couldn’t take the drone on the highway and my car would vibrate like crazy at low speeds.

I rushed to get the Stasis right before a trip to Detroit. I’m sort of regretting it now but oh well. I’m considering having CPT make me a custom system OR just ordering a Milltek S6 exhaust. If it’s too loud, I’ll just swap the Stasis back on and sell the Milltek.

Yeah, but removing mufflers will make anything sound insane.

Wonder if beemercer could chime in on his thoughts behind what these cars would benefit from, exhaust wise. It seems odd to me that these V6 cars with superchargers moving 750 CFM of air are doing so by expelling the spent gases through a tiny 2.25" or 2.36" exhaust.

I reckon the cars are performing so nobody really looks into it too hard, but I can tell you that if I owned a pullied B8 S4, I would seriously be considering 2.50 or bigger exhaust setups. Especially when you guys are running loads of boost and generating lots of heat.

Unless you don’t like the sound, I don’t see it worth it performance wise.

I heard clochner’s Milltek in person and it made me :o

I figure that I could recoup a decent amount of money on the Stasis which was purchased new in January.

If it will fill the whole in your heart, then do it!

If I were to do it all over again, I’d have a custom exhaust made.

I like the V-bands used in the SPM exhaust

I wonder what diameter piping they are using, as it looks like a milltek knock off. It also has been in production and design for over a year.

I think they have some more room to play with since there is much higher manifold pressure than an N/A motor. The nitrous S4’s always suffered the most from undersized exhaust (tons of exhaust volume with nothing pushing it out). I’d still think a dual 2.5" would be a good performance option, though it may make the drone much worse.

that looks like a nice setup. agreed on vbands as well, i don’t think I’d ever do any exhaust without them.

Here’s how it used to sound with the 2.5" x-piped setup. Not bad IMO

Stasis sound sort of raspy… Porsche flat-6ish. I need to get a video of it.

Sounds like all the b8 cars really. Not bad at all relatively speaking.

What’s the incoming missile sound as you drive away and are in rundown?

Incoming missile? I’ll have to look into that one. Was it possibly the road noise? That road is that grooved concrete so it tends to make a lot of noise with the tires.
