The end of Audi power wagons in North America??

The 2017 S4 Avant (wagon), available only in Europe. No S6 wagons in North America since 2003. And now, no more S4 wagons in North America either? Can it be true??

What is the world coming to? I mean, what if I’m running late and I wanna haul ass to get to a camp ground before it gets dark, and then sleep in my car? I need a fast wagon for that! What if I need to get a LOT of groceries home in an expedited fashion? Mercedes has come to the North American arena with a ballsy AMG trim wagon, and now Audi is backing out? Oh my gosh…

So what’s under the hood for 2017? Well, it’s an eight speed automatic V6, but when you just effin give er, this puppy pulls with 354 hp, and a torque of 368.8 lb‑ft that runs from 1,370 to 4,500 rpm, AND with a fuel consumption advertised at less than 7.4 liters of fuel per 100 km (31.8 US mpg). That is wayyyy better than my five speed automatic 1.8Turbo wagon from 2004, BUT, you probably won’t get that kinda mileage if you need to get home before your frozen yogurt starts to melt.

Base price of 61,150 Euros, or $89,000 Canadian ($66,000 US).

Well if they’re not sending any more power wagons to North America, then I guess the 2008 S4 will be the last of the mighty V8 Audi wagons in North America.

Audi wagons in America have been on the decline for over 15 years.

The last real power wagon was the b7 S4… Last sold 9 years ago.

The list of awesome wagons that never even made it here is long. B5/B7 RS4, C5/6/7 RS6, not to mention the S variants.

If you want a power wagon there’s only one solution and it’s a used E63 AMG wagon. I think they stopped before the E63 AMG S which is unfortunate because it’s the first AWD AMG wagon.

According to this autotrader ad, there’s a 2015 4-matic AMG-S wagon for sale in Quebec.

Not sure if the S is real or just badging (the S part is in the description and you can see it in one of the photos).

Seems like they’re having difficulty selling it though. Been listed for 6+ weeks and price dropped $6,300 CAD since original listing.

Current Price$116,900

Originally listed for$123,200

It’s depreciating by $1k a week at this rate just sitting there lol

And the number of "WOW"s in the description is hilarious.

That white Mercedes is one hot wagon, with a seven speed automatic and a biturbo V8 (and that ad was hilarious), but I’m gonna go for the legendary Quattro for now, with a six speed automatic B7 S4, and add a centrifugal blower on the V8, plus a three inch exhaust.

I really appreciate the feedback though!! I’d totally go with the Mercedes if I wanted to stick to the simplicity of stock components.

The first Quattro car debuted in 1980. It was arguably one of the most significant automotive engineering landmarks in motorsport history, with all-weather performance that the world could not believe without seeing. The 1994 RS2 was the world’s fastest station wagon, AND it could sprint to 30mph even FASTER than a McLaren F1 at the time.

And so began the legend of the Audi power wagon. Soon after that, came the RS4 and RS6, offering maximum performance but more importantly maximum traction in ANY weather conditions. It’s a shame for the wagon guys that these wagon offerings are kaput in North America for now.

Here’s that AMG-S wagon for anyone who doesn’t know what it looks like (Autotrader ad expired):

very ugly car the merc

Frankly, wagons just aren’t popular over here. If you want a fast “five door”, then buy a fast SUV like the SQ5 or, soon to come, SQ7 to get those groceries from point A to point B swiftly. Or I guess you could mod up the A3 Sportback E-tron? :o

I also second that… The Merc doesn’t look that appealing.
