The Imolamonster came to take the title... and almost did! lol

So went to the strip today, opening day for 2012… Met another fourm member, Imolamonster(Patrick) there for some fun… He has a 2011 B8 S4 with apr tune, pulley, longtubes, miltek exhaust, apr intake, 18inch bbs wheels and I beleive that is it… He was on race gas as was I… Things got interesting when he showed up as his car was in diet mode… He came w/o the front seat, back seat, and a bunch of plastic around the motor area… I think he said he took out 230lbs… As soon as I seen it I said to my brother, “wow, I think I am in trouble here”… He came ready to run some times…

My Car: 2010 Audi S4 - DSG with sports dif, 5,875 miles, 1/8 tank of gas, tools and spare removed

Mods: APR tune, APR pulley, LFC’s, miltek non-res exhaust, custom intake, APR CPS, front and rear sways, Alu Kruez, Brembo BBK, BBS CHR’s, tire pressure 36F 32R

Conditions: 49F, 43% humidity, 30.33 BP… DA was 450… almost a perfect day around here… of course I don’t get these -1000 DA days like you other folks :slight_smile:

Ran a total of 5 passes… Made 4 right away and then it got mobbed and lots of breakage so we bailed after 1 more…

Run 1:
Racing the Imolamonter, I staged before he did and waited as he pulled up… I had a nice shallow stage and think he was a little deeper… I nailed a decent .23 reaction time to his .74 so he was playing catchup the whole time… clean shifting hit 5th fairly early so I knew I had a good time… Sure enough… boom! 11.78! A new best by a hundreth! LOL Patrick ran a 12.19… I think he used his paddles to shift by accident and shortshifted… I wasn’t quite as worried now but knew he would run better… Watch my rearview in the gopro vid below…

Run 2:
Another nice clean pass and ran a 11.85… Didn’t get to run Patrick, but watched him pull off a 11.83! Uh oh… I could be in trouble here…

Run 3:
Another nice clean pass and I backed the 11.85 up with an 11.85! lol

Run 4:
Next, me and the monster lined up again… I barely out treed him .1518 to .2956 and it was on… Car had a slight 1-2 hang and it cost me as we were dead even the whole track… I went 12.07 to his 11.93 but still got the win because of my reaction time… lol

Run 5:
Waited quite a while and busted off a 11.89…

All in all a very fun day… His car runs well… We went back to my house to do some vag mods and he had o2 codes thrown, but don’t think it hurt his performance… I was happy with my car given he was at least 200-250lbs lighter and I still ran slightly better times… Was hoping for 11.6 and it would have probably happened if it didn’t get so crowded and it did warm up into the 50’s… Oh well long season and I did get a nw best…

The bad news is I let my PC die w/o saving the vagcom logs and even worse I left the SD card in my pc vs in the v-box so no data… I even went to 130 on my runs for testing… Tsivas is going to kill me! LOL I’ll use this thing one more week and get them next week…

Congrats PT 11.78 @ 115 is no joke for a fully loaded 4 door sedan! That slips also serves as a reminder that trap MPH speeds do not lie, esp for anyone who says “I’m a shit driver so the dragstrip is irrelevant”.

I’d love to see one of you guys do the weight test that I’m going to do on my RS4.

i.e. do a PBOX 60-90 pull or 60-120 stock weight…then do it again with four 60 lb sandbags in your car to see the difference 240 lbs makes. I bet it’s significant, but not earth shattering.

I am so pissed on all the data I didn’t get… I ran each pass to 130+ and fucking had the sd card in my pc… I played with this thing yesterday and forgot to move the card from the pc back to the box…

Haha can’t wait for pics of the stripped car. I think the rule is if you strip your car then you gotta drive it like that for a month like 91.

116-117 would be more normal for a 11.8 car I’d say. It’s a pretty damn serious couple of short times though. Look at your 330 foot…4.90??? Holy shit. For perspective that RS4 that ran 11.4 @ 125 last weekend had a 4.97 330 foot time off a decent launch…so that means even early in 3rd gear, in a mocked up race using your runs, you still had him by half a car length.

It’s only at the 1/8th mile mark that he’s now a 1/2 car ahead of you…but he’s killing your MPH there (98 to 92) and the 2nd half of the track is where it puts about 5 car lenghts on you. So if you ever come across a TTS supercharged RS4 on the street, tell him you’ll race till the middle of 3rd only, from a dig lol

I’m in a fully optioned ADS, it was so weird getting in 81Bear’s car for a couple runs and not knowing where any of the buttons were or not seeing the backup camera so I can roll right back up to the water box. Lol it was my best shot at an 11 but all I left him was a 12.24 slip in his console, next to his 12.22.

And yes, Ron, fine I agree, I need an intake and exhaust, the sound was AWESOME in David’s car, his Strat + Milltek.

To me the obvious question begs to be asked. Are headers a joke on the B8 S4? Seems with the mods that he had that you would expect to be worried. Seems to me that the headers did little to nothing to help him. He also had weight removal. So this makes me think that headers are just a gimmik for the B8…

Saki, Yeah this car really moves out of the hole… Not going to lose many stoplight to stoplight races… I’m pretty sure I’ll have something for the top end sooner than later… Will see how I stack up against the TTS RS4 then ;D

tsivas, trust me I am more bummed than anyone as it would be some good data and I really want to know my stats… I won’t forget again…

J, I agree on the weight… If I dropped that much I think low to mid 11.5’s would be possible… I won’t do it though… I will lose some weight in other ways though… In the end it is his car and I am just glad I got someone around here to come out with me and he had a really good time… Even happier he didn’t beat my times!

Glad you are going to do exhaust and intake I think you will like it and you should see 11’s than with a good DA… Remember though Bear has the HFC’s so it won’t sound quite like his as the cats change the sound quite a bit…

Justin, Thanks! Yeah given his mods are nearly the same as me minus me running the CPS and a BBK… He has the longtubes to my HFC’s… He is also on lighter 18 inch wheels, so that is another advantage for him… His traps were right there with mine and I mostly took him in the first 60ft, so some of it comes down to experience/practice and knowing how to launch the car… I gave him some tips and lowered his air pressure which resluted in his 11.83 so the car probably had a little more in it… But it was also 250-300 lbs lighter and he doesn’t have the sportdif which adds a few lbs as well… With all that being said I am not sold on the headers… will see when I go to bigger blower but at this point after all my moaning and complaining I am happy with the HFC’s…

I’ll post some more vids shortly need to make a cup of coffee… lol

Ron great times bro! It seems the car is running super consistent which is awesome! One question, you said you had a slight hang up on the 1-2 shift on run number 4… do you remember if you had excessive wheels spin? My tranny was acting real funny on Friday so I didn’t make nearly as many passes as I would have liked but I think the 1-2 hang is a result of hitting a torque limiter which seems to be more apparent with wheel spin off the line. I was so concerned about the tranny I didn’t take any of the PSI out of the tires and to be honest didn’t think of it until Jay asked what PSI I was running in the rears (33psi). LOL! ???

Jay I have to disagree, though it isn’t my style to take out the seats and what not I’m still impressed with him running 11.8… Also, glad you liked the sound of the car, happier that you didn’t pull a better time than I did in my car, lol! I hope you do get the intake and exhaust as you will notice a difference in times, probably more so with the intake than the exhaust, as with the tune the engines are starving for air.

We have to make another trip out to TMP, hopefully in April, once I have the V2 tune and this time I will drop the tire pressure and take Jay’s advice and scrub the tire before my run!
