Has anyone watched the show? Do you think he did it? Vote above, argue below.
Personally, I watched 2 episodes. It immediately became apparent that there was only half of the story being told and they were doing their best to win the case on TV. Pretty funny. So I read the evidence instead. I read transcripts of the courtroom evidence, transcripts of interviews with the suspect, and found that it was pretty clear - Avery is guilty of premeditated kidnapping rape, murder and unfortunately he foolishly involved his nephew in his plan. His nephew who he had sexually absued for years (not a lot of people who just watched the show know about that little nugget do they? That’s an example of why you need to read the evidence rather than just watch a slanted tv show)
I watched the full series and when I finished I wasn’t convinced either way. I felt like the investigation was very poor and just… odd.
After I read the evidence afterwords, I am convinced he did do it. I am not sure he nephew knew what the hell to think. He thought if he told the truth, they would let him walk out. Then he realized he wasn’t going to walk so he claims he was lying. I would rate his mom’s freakout at the sentencing 8/10. I was convinced she was going to run over the reporters.
Its amazing to see my friends on facebook who are convinced he is innocent and then I show them all the evidence they left out. They changed their minds pretty quickly afterwords.
I watched the whole series. It really sucked me in around episode 3 and I found it wildly entertaining. I haven’t read into the other half of the story but it was obvious that things were left out to perceive his innocence in the show.
The way the police conducted the investigation was downright horrible. With his pending lawsuit and the timeline it looked crooked to have the county police be involved in ANY part of the investigation. It seems crazy that they searched Avery’s home for 4 days before they found the key and even longer I think before they found the bullet in the garage. Both pieces of evidence were conveniently found by the county police so I do believe evidence was planted. I’d really like to see a second test for the presence ACT, or what ever its called, on Avery’s blood found in the Rav4 to see if it came from the vial they already had.
I’m still up in the air whether he did it or not but the lack of non planted physical evidence is sketchy. I think the biggest thing for me is if he didn’t do it, who did? Was there any other evidence linking anyone else?
The worst part of the investigation was they brought in outside counties to search. But then why was manitiwoc officers even there, and why were they the only ones to find evidence? Hell the one guy had just given a deposition right before this all happened
make sure you read the evidence and the ACTUAL timelines and transcripts…you’ve really only seen a sliver of things, and the majority of what was shown on the TV show was bullshit, skewed to fool viewers. Seriously.
They would edit conversations, re-order the quotes and delete things people said to keep you anti-police/anti-county/anti-DA/PROavery
Example the cat story. As Avery told the story abotu his animal cruelty conviction for the cat who died…
-it was an accident
we had a bonfire and were fucking around
I saw the cat and tried to scare him by throwing him over the flames
-he fell in and I made a mistake, I accept it
NO
What really happened? He grabbed the cat. He doused it in kerosene. He threw it directly into the bonfire then watched it freakout and burn alive.
Did anyone know that while in prison, he talked about how he wanted to build a torture chamber and kidnap a woman and rape and torture her? Guess what he did within a couple years of getting out. Kidnapped, raped and tortured a woman.
Anyone who watched the show…did you know 3 weeks earlier he booked the appointment with AutoTrader to send a photographer…did you know he did so under an assumed name so she wouldn’t refuse (she had apparently been creeped out by him on previous visits to photograph cars for him, and told her boss she didn’t want to go back).
When he booked the appointment, he went out and bought leg shackles and handcuffs (premeditation much?)
He called her a few times that day of the appointment, he used *67 to hide his phone number from her call display
They also found some of her belongings in the fire pit as well as her bones.
So the one thing I don’t understand is this…
If he raped/cut her in the house then dragged her to the garage where he shot her… how on earth was he smart enough and good enough to remove the blood but then leaves his blood in her car and left bones in the fire pit… and leave her car on the freaking property…
Maybe I missed something from the extra reading I did but I just don’t understand
he’s not that smart. Knowing to cover your tracks is easy. Being great at it is hard.
specifically…
his blood in her car - was a tiny amount. Perhaps a cut on your knuckle etc. Not a gushing wound. You get in a small rav4 when you’re used to driving a big tow truck and your hand slams into the dash when you’re putting the key in the ignition (thinking it’s farther when it’s closer). The already bloody knuckle transfers a little blood to the dashboard. Not enough to make you see it…but enough for a cop to find it. Anyone wants to say the police planted it from blood test vials, that’s bullshit. Blood test vials have a blood preservative in them. The blood on the dashboard found had NONE of this in it.
For the record he then disconnected the battery and police found his DNA on the hood latch. Another detail excluded from the television show
He left the car on the property because the heat came on quicker than he thought. The night they raped/tortured/killed her, they moved her car to the back of the lot and hid it (poorly). Their plan was to crush it in their car crusher, then to take it to an external location and recycle it. Before they could do so, some friends who were looking for the girl asked his dad Earl if they could check around the property . He agreed of course (earl didn’t murder anyone). They found her car. Avery was fucked.
Her belongings (Phone, PDA, Camera) were found in a burn barrel (basically an oil drum) burnt and smashed.
The funniest thing about the conspiracy theorists who think the cops framed him is this…and I’ve heard nobody ask or explain this.
WHEN did the cops kill her, and then burn her body in his firepit? There was no fire at any time during the police search. IT takes a long ass time to burn a body in a firepit dpwm to bones and teeth. Avery never leaves home because he’s a bum. So was he there while they did this? Pretty tough to miss the smell of a burning corpse and a ten foot wide bon fire fuelled by gasoline and tires that is being run by some cops trying to frame you lol. Because her bones in the pit were intertwined with burnt tires and steel belts from truck tires used as accelerants in the fire.
The guy most likely did it and the local cops knew it because they’re in the community and know he’s a sick fuck. He did a really good job cleaning up the kill spot or he did it somewhere else completely and they can’t find it. The cops couldn’t find enough evidence to get a definite conviction so they planted it after the fact. Just really sloppy police work though, all of them are fuckin stupid.
If he actually killed her, you can tell he has a 70 point IQ. What person with a decent brain would kill someone who is sent to your property for their job, burn the remains, and store the victim’s vehicle on their own property?
I would have burned her in the rav4, crushed it, then driven it to the middle of nowhere and buried it or dumped it in a lake. A metal car chassis is hard to get rid of without people noticing though. He should have known police would be on his ass as soon as she was reported missing, so time was critical. What would be a better way to dispose of the vehicle after it’s been burned and crushed?
Your focusing too much on the show and the dumb kids initial story. I did the same thing.
The kid changes stories a lot, they likely raped her in the house and that was all. Then they took her in the garage and killed her by stabbing, slitting and shooting. I think the kid eventually told the truth.
Also with the key that everyone feels was planted, they found his sweat DNA on it. I can’t imagine them getting averys sweat, then wiping it on the key, and then putting it in the house
I think from every story the kid made up I’ve lost track.
Did anyone catch Avery’s ex fiance on Nancy Grace the other night? She claims Avery threatened her to make him look good for Netflix and hell be out soon. Wrote her letters about how she needs to give money to his parents. She was beaten by avery and even claimed she ate rat poison twice just to go to the hospital to get away from him
Great stuff Saki. Friends and I have been discussing this a lot over the past few weeks. Glad to see everyone doesn’t just blindly follow what they’re given in “documentaries.”
I do believe Avery is guilty but I will say, Ken Kratz irritated the hell out of me. Also, the blood kit bothered me. Not sure if you ever got to that part. Procedurally, there seemed to be a lot of questionable decisions and rulings.
Part of me does feel bad for the nephew. With the history of abuse and what appears to be some level of mental disability, shame he didn’t at least get adequate representation from the beginning that would have given him some chance of rehabilitation later in life.
The broken seals was very odd, but the hole in the purple top is actually normal. Doesn’t mean it couldn’t have been tampered with, but it’s no smoking gun as many here are claiming.
I think he has an ok lawyer but the lawyer had an uphill battle.
From what I understand of the time line, the kid burned himself. He talked to the cops without retaining counsel (who would have told him don’t say a fucking word)
He then retained counsel who basically said let’s see if we can’t get you out of jail before you die…let’s come clean.
Unfortunately his moron family told him to recant his statement when going to trial to save his uncle . Which he tried to do but that’s called closing the barn door when the horse has already bolted. Plea deal? Gone
All around, bummer for the kid but let’s not forget
He raped her
He participated in the murder, the kidnapping, and the cover up of all three crimes
He was a minor and, if I recall correctly, his mother claims she did not consent to his interrogation or did not understand that he was being questioned as a suspect. I forget the exact circumstances.
He was pulled from school by officers and then taken directly to the station. His eventual public defender was more interested in making a name for himself than defending his client and made a statement to the press admitting his client’s guilt. His initial attorney also allowed him to be questioned by police without being present.
I “feel bad” in the sense that he was raised in that family, abused by them, and inevitably turned into the same scum that they are. I have to think that he may have felt forced to commit the crime as a result of Avery being his abuser for so many years. From everything I read and saw, he’s timid, mentally corrupted, and has zero willpower of his own. The kid confessed to raping and murdering a girl then called his mom from jail to ask if he would be home in time to watch Wrestlemania that week. Kid is dumb as a rock. Have to wonder what the outcome would have been had he had Avery’s defense team.
RE: the police – I do believe they are corrupt but I never suspected they killed the girl. I do believe they may have made their jobs a lot easier by manipulating some of the evidence.
