The s6 journey begins

I am in my 9th year of ownership of an 07 S6 and have certainly had my fair share of electrical challenges.

At least the ecu connectors are relatively easily accessible under the plenum for ringing out wires.

I should be able to dig out an ecu pinout for you.

Thanks for that, managed to get 20 mins to see if i could test the wiring, no luck. Think I need to rethink my testing method, the little bits of metal I pushed in the pins either end might not have been making contact, so i’ll clean them up and try again later.

i did discover a new bit of spanner monkey genius on the loom on that side i have all the problems on.

I don’t know what the bracket is supposed to be for on the back of the head, but some moron has cut it, bent it slightly and left the wiring loom rubbing on it and a massive sharp point sticking out.

Good Spanner Monkey. Well done!

For whatever reason they’ve been in there, they’ve butchered the loom as well. I’ve removed some of their dodgy taping to reveal the extent of it.

I’ve bent the remaining bracket down so i can get in there with cutting myself and I’ll investigate the loom there I think. Make sure there’s no broken wires and tape it all up properly.

Not exactly factory!!. Morons.

Well that is indeed the problem!!!

Quite likely, all the problems on that bank of the engine!!!

GOOD SPANNER MONKEY!!!

Time for some soldering action and i’m going to see if i can get that bracket off

Well I couldn’t get that bracket off, but lo and behold no codes now with that wiring all sorted. not 1 misrfire, no codes for the cam actuator, seems good finally.

Found another bit of joy while i was disconnecting the harness from everything on that side though.

How in hell someone has managed to break the actuator connector i’ll never know i suppose. Also the clip on the harness side connector was broken, so i’ll be ordering another actuator and a bunch more connector housings i guess.

i think i still have the one i replaced from those wires shorting out, that i thought was knackered, might have a look for that before i order a new one.

Adjust to add… I think all the issues I’ve been having are to do with this butchered harness. Whoever was working on the throttle bodies, which I’ll check in my docs tomorrow has caused a bunch of issues by not doing things right in the first place.

They changed the connectors for the throttle bodies on both banks by the look of it with plugs with wire tails already on. Although they’ve done a decent enough job soldering stuff up. They’ve caused other issues with that bent bracket… would like to know what it’s for. Because it’s not doing its job now.
