The Skiing/Boarding Thread

yeah thats rough, watching everyone else go all day and then not having the chance yourself.

wachusett in ma has probably 90% of the molehill lit up until 10pm, but its wachusett and it sucks lol

iirc bretton woods lights some of it up until 8pm, but its probably the middle of the mtn and not the fun parts

sunday river goes until 8pm (8am-8pm pass kicks ass, only like $4 more for 4hrs more), but same deal its only a few peaks

not sure about the rest, I have a fairly flexible schedule at work so I’m doing monday/tuesday ski days all day all winter lol

if anyone comes out to New England to ski lemme know, I’d probably be able to meet up for at least a day

I’m gonna try to put the deals I find in here as well, here’s a decent one:

$58 tickets to killington, good for any non peak days, must buy before 10/11

Soon… Very soon.

nice, I’m jealous… I’m hoping to be on the mtn by Halloween this year. Picked up my skis from the tuner yesterday, very excited to try out my K2’s

Halloween! That would be very early indeed. don’t get too jealous, it also snowed a bit in town last night (still is kinda). A day ago it was in the low 20sC (70s F)…

Im kinda enjoying the fall weather right now but I am a avid skier + boarder. Im contemplating a $600 seasons pass to the bird here in utah, since this is my last year I will be a student forever!

nice, its been 60 and rainy all week here… sooo close. Just read that Killington may have some snow Monday, so the Halloween goal may not be overly optimistic

do it, I regret not taking advantage of the student discounts when I had the chance

yeah, my friend went to University of Calgary, and skied all year for $200 or so. Incredible. Last time I checked, they have some good skiing there in the Rocky Mountains lol.

$200 for the season?!! I think I spent more than that last time I went skiing for a weekend.

Yeah. Student rate at lake Louise. This was fifteen years ago though. I’m sure it is still next to nothing. He still gets it because is with the Canadian Olympic program for a bunch of winter sports. Exercise physiology.

My gf and I have been eyeing Utah for some skiing. I hear it’s quite good over there. I’ve skied in the Canadian Rockies, Tahoe, Vermont/NH, French and Swiss Alps.

Any one here have any feedback on Utah? Is the skiing there really good or simply hyped up (i.e. is it worth the flight and cost, etc.?)

always heard good things, only been once when I was 10 to park city/deer valley. it was fun, but thats some time ago before I started doing the fun terrain.

I had actually put in to move to an open position within the company I work for in Ogden, UT right next to powder mtn (a coworker heavily recommends powder mtn fwiw).

read a funny article from powder magazine about things to avoid, couldnt agree more with this one:

Interactive Trail Maps Nothing gets my Andy Rooney going quite like these over-engineered and painfully omnipresent inventions. Apparently there are people who think displaying the black diamonds on the same trail map as the chairlifts and the terrain parks is information overload. For the rest of us who have the mental capacity to ingest all the trail and lift information at the same time, interactive trail maps prevent us from actually understanding the layout of any given mountain, as we play reverse whack-a-mole trying to pull up every individual feature of the mountain until we have the exact same image and information Jim Niehues painted in his turtleneck in the ‘80s.

my local mountain is starting to see some snow! hopefully it will be a good year as i’ve got trips planned for oregon, idaho, and utah this year. pretty stoked.

Utah is the best in the US, no bias at all ;D

The reason that I think that Utah is great for winter sports is because it has verrrry low humidity. It is typically in the top few states for lowest humidity percentage per year. What does this mean? This means that when there is a shitload of snow (aka powder) it is very light and fluffy. This is much easier/more enjoyable to ride through than heavier wet powder. It is all pretty good out west, but Utah is worth a trip for sure.

True, never thought of it this way ^

It also contributes to less frost bite, wind chill, and bone chilling cold!

This is true for sure. However there is something to be said for the fun you can have at a place like Baker after a couple day long storm cycle.

fuck powder, skiing on shitty east coast ice is where its at…

lol
