The Skiing/Boarding Thread

Telluride in one week. Ordered a Go Pro to document the trip. Friend is also bringing his. Should collect some cool footage.

Was hoping to get in a little warm up somewhere in Wisconsin in the weeks leading up to this trip but with all the mild weather, doubt that’s going to happen. Oh well.

Enjoy the trip! Telluride is a great place. Skiing and nightlife. Great mix. Hit up baked in telluride for some sweet rolls for breakfast.

Definitely will. Thanks for the recommendation!

Any other suggestions while there? Any specific runs to try out? Revelation Bowl looks like a real treat. Going to be checking that out day 1.

I say try it all out. It is a large enough mtn to keep you interested but you can see it all in a few days. If you are up to it, definitely take the “stairway to heaven” hike/bridge to the steepest terrain (snow conditions dependant). There is a ton of hike to stuff in telluride. Some not for the faint of heart frankly. But all of the lift access stuff is a solid mix for most anyone to challenge or just cruise on long groomed runs. I’m not much a trail map guy or for remembering run names but looking over the trail map, Apex stuff is a lot fun. Trees, steepish, fun mix. Also the upper runs off gold hill lift are fun. Really can’t go wrong. The most challenging stuff really needs a lot snow for me to be comfortable on. It is steep!

You staying in mtn village or in town below? Either way you have access to and from with the gondola.

Siam is pretty darn good if you like thai food. There is a lot of overpriced food like most resorts frankly

Our trip is set for end of January. Headed to Whistler

Nice. I’ve heard great things about Whistler. Hopefully they’re getting a lot of snow despite this weird weather.

This will be my first time out to CO for skiing. Not sure I’ll be confident enough to take the more serious hike-to terrain but we’ll see. We are staying in Mountain Village. Got a great deal on a house for 1/3 the price it usually goes this time of year. Guess it pays off to make reservations over a year in advance ;D

Willing to bet you will enjoy the terrain regardless of hike to or not. Telluride is a great place for first CO experience. You’ll love it.

I now its not Colorado but ill be heading up to Alpine and Chestnut a lot on the weekends this year to hold me over until my trips out west. So if you still have my number (from our meet up at GLD) let me know if you are ever free on the weekends. Im in Wauconda so you could come from the city then go into one car from there.

Devils head is a good time. About 2.5-3 hours from Wauconda. That said, Alpine is a much closer trip and still fun as convenient it is. There’s always Wilmot ~hour away. Grew up night “skiing” there. More like ice skating down hill. Lol!

Went to Alpine last night with the wife…super cold, super icy, super hard. Long store short I shouldn’t have been pushing on the jumps as hard as I was and ended up busting my lip and nose pretty bad. Came down the rest of the run went to the lift shack and asked for some tissues, they told me I should probably sit down and look at the trail of blood I was leaving behind me…kudos to the med crew for their support at closing. No concussion but my boarding ego and nose are a little bruised.

Anyways ready to go back out ;D

Ouch

Ouch

Damn. Glad to hear nothing more serious. My thumb is still screwed from my fall last year. Absolutely down to meet up in WI. Hoping to get out there in the next few weeks.

Telluride was surreal. Most beautiful place I have ever visited. We were lucky enough to have fresh snow the first two days and clear skies on the third day. It was cold but nothing we couldn’t handle. Took a lot of video and pics but have only uploaded a few. Can’t wait to go back. Those OR Alti mitts I bought last winter worked wonders for my hands. I was sweating in them. Never felt cold at all despite a lot of windy chairlift rides and sub zero Fahrenheit temps at summit.

Might be going to Winter Park in late February. Hoping it pans out.
