The Skiing/Boarding Thread

went up to killington today, nice and empty… 5th day on fake snow is killing me though

Arg, I’ve been so busy with this and that I haven’t had any time. I will try and fix that wrong this weekend.

I miss this place…

so northern new england finally got snow… very excited to do some glades for the next 5 days before the holiday crowds ruin the fun

Well no Snowboarding for me over the holidays as there simply isn’t any the flattest place on earth (Saskatchewan). There is however these:

177 horsepower and about 750lbs including me. All I can say is holy fucking fuck!! This is the single fastest thing I’ve ever driven in my life. It is an odd sensation going 0-100 mph with little or no steering because the front is off the snow. Putting along at 60 or so mph then pin the throttle? Front end is up. At 80? Same. Awesome. Then you look over at cars on a road beside you going 60 kph.

codswallop, you definitely mean CO. I’ve been up about 4 or 5 times since the season started, started off slow but the week past was great for snow and has most resorts at damn near 100%. breck and keystone have been nice, haven’t been to coppermmountain since opening day but they have a decent base. once i get settled in at the new place in Denver definitely taking a couple days in vail

sleds are nuts, the level of technology in the newer ones is astounding. i was never a huge fan of arctic cat as i was raised on polaris and skidoo but undoubtably a fast machine. the best part is the 2 stroke revolution, half the displacement and weight of the competing 4t but more power and fewer emissions for the tree huggers.

People don’t realise how frigging fast snow machines are.

A guy in our office had a few at his cottage and they were mental. He told me the quarter mile times they could run, on snow, and I didn’t believe him. Till I drove one. ;D

hoping this rain stays away, I’ve got tomorrow and friday off from work… Cannon is looking good so hopefully the wind stays away too

supposed to be quite warm here for a week.

damn its gonna warm here in MA but no where near 11, maybe high of 5. The white mtns are going to be borderline rain/snow, just above freezing… hopefully it doesnt rain while I’m at Cannon, that wind with freezing rain would be terrible.

I wouldn’t mind a little bit of warm. It has been fucking full winter, actual snow and -temps, since the end of September. On the plus side I’ve 4 days of this to look forward to in a few weeks:

The Burton Jussi. That is an oldy but goody. I have that in a 59 for my all mountain board.

[/quote]
Yeah the Jussi is a fun board, not much steel left on the edges of that one though. Its actually my shorty/current rock board, my main, all mountain board is a 160cm Custom X. But I still seem to pick the Jussi fairly often.

About to book a trip to sun valley for a week in mid/late march. Should be a good time. I didn’t get to go skiing last year and this is my first time to Sun Valley. The wife has only skied once before though and that was 7 years ago. So that should be interesting lol. I’m hoping she likes it and enjoys herself.

The mountains are getting a bit of a dump this week, much needed in my opinion, Lake Louise was wind beaten two weeks ago and Sunshine had less than I had hoped for last week. Staying close to home this weekend at Nakiska.

I picked up another line charging board a K2 Protohype 162, I popped my Union Atlas bindings on it and picked up a set of Union Custom House Team Canada highbacks for my Lib-Tech…which in my opinion is a much better fit than the Atlas’

Family is all booked into board lessons throughout January and February, but I am organizing an end of lessons trip to Fernie for family day. My ex-wife has a vacation property at the bottom of the hill and my daughter should be able to join us on her skis, pretty stoked about the trip

For lessons you should check these guys out: http://www.ridersonboard.com/coaching/ they are affiliated with the alberta snowboard fed and are awesome. My kids have been in the little sisters program for a few years now and love it. It is a whole season kind of thing and you kind of need a COP pass to make it work but it is a really great, freindly and close knitt program of snowboarders who want little snowboarders to love it as much as they do. Plus you get a discount at the source (i can remember if its 15 or 25%).

got back out on the snow today, lots of trees

can’t wait for cannon on friday

Thanks, I will certainly check into those lessons. For now my son is enrolled in a 5week at COP and Yvonne( wife) is signed up for a 2 day Burton’s women’s camp. I have a feeling they will both be in lessons for a couple of years.

Discount at The Source is good to have, living in south Calgary I spend a lot of time and cash at the Shawnessy store

Dark woods, scary on a snowboard
