the v10 s6 project

Justin, you hit the nail on the head. The car is CRAZY responsive, even on the stock ECU program, which is currently in place for emission purposes at the moment. It is NUTS. I have to focus to keep it from bucking like a wild bronco in first gear.

The headers, high flow cats, and exhaust unleash the beast in the v10 S6. I never would have guessed that the difference would be so dramatic, since the stock exhaust manifold and exhaust looks generally OK. But, I was wrong. The difference is significant.

Everything is going turbo, in all the new cars. The v10 S6 is something completely different, and special. With its instantaneous response, quick revs, and raw, yet refined, bark! (when modded), it really feels like a 4-door Lambo.

What I dont like…

The steering. It is way too boosted, and doesnt have enough ‘return to center’ force.

I have plans to resolve the issues with an increase in positive caster and a servotronic mod.

In any case, a small gripe for an otherwise INCREDIBLE machine.

Car is back in the shop working on a coolant leak and a couple other minor issues. I will provide more updates when I get the car back.

Sounds like I need some of this in my life. Any chance to get the video on some non-flash player version for phone-friendly viewing?

That is awesome to hear. I got the opertunity to see some of the work along the way. Great work and I dont know if alot of the newer guys here know but from my perspective a lot of the v10 community owes you a thanks. You offered up your car so others could get headers and catbacks made so that kept your car away for even longer. You could have gotten your car back a year ago if you were not so generious with trying to help others out. So a big round of applause for you on that.

back to the headers. LOL I and the other header guys know just what your talking about. A REAL exhaust works to pull in more air then the piston will on its own. Lots of guys just think exhaust is exhaust but a REAL exhaust upps the motor efficency by a large percentage. It is very possible to pick up over 60whp with just headers alone. IF THEY ARE MADE RIGHT.

On the B6 and B7 4.2 the JHM headers make a crazy difference. A proven time and time again 50+ whp and wtq. But the china knock off headers that tried to knock off the JHM headers makes less power then just standard DPs do. So getting the exhaust right is a real science and when the science and math are right the power is amazing. I remember telling people how big of a difference my headers on my B6 S4 made. It wasnt till others actually got the headers until they under stood the instant tq and power that it gives.

Price wise I know it seems like alot for headers and catback but when you really think about it. How much is a v10 R8 how much is a lambo. Lets just say that your headers and catback cost 10k for the sake of conversation. You can get R8 v10 or lambo V10 power out of the motor for 1/10th the cost of a R8 or lambo and you have 4 doors. Kinda a easy investment if you ask me.

Sounds great and jealous  sounds like mine but a little louder and crisper for sure. Bet it’s s blast!

Three questions:

 1. when is the tune going on
 2. Whats your intake setup, custom or just filters?
 3. plans to hit the track? I imagine we have to wait for the spring now.

Also is Tcu tune on your roadmap. And out of curiosity how many miles do you have?

hey vtgt

ECU and TCU tune will go on when I get the car back from the shop.

Filters are stock, but I will likely swap them with K&N. The backs of the airboxes are removed at the moment. We originally had plans to do something more elaborate, but it looks like we will stick with this setup for now.

Don’t know if, or when, Ill have a chance to hit the track. Im crazy busy at work now, and it doesnt look like it will slow down anytime soon. We’ll have to see.

There is another v10 vehicle on AudiRevolution that has gone, with the same exhaust (minus headers) and has the ECU/TCU tune. Maybe he will chime in with his results

Headers are kind of hugely relevant to the gains though, aren’t they? Won’t even be close to what yours would be capable of.

Yes, that is true. The headers definitely take the car to another level.

I uploaded it to youtube for you (unlisted so nobody can find it unless you give them the link) so you can share it/embed it easily.

I get 1/20 of a cent for every view, so if it gets 1 million views, I owe you $500

I can’t wait to see a video of this thing at WOT under load.

Awesome! Thanks Sakimano!

Will likely be a little while before I have some driveby vids, but Ill get them up as soon as I can.

if you’re still driving the S6 when we meet up for the vagcom cable, I can film your car for you. I have a nice quiet spot.

That would be a great idea. The guy who wrote the book on exhaust videos making an exhaust video. Excited to see more and hear more

Even so, a proper exhaust and tune will still yield decent gains, so hopefully the user will post their thoughts (and possibly a video of a drive-by  ) any idea if his exhaust is a true 3 inch? Although, I’d imagine it would have to neck down to mate to the front section…

All of this action is making me miss my s6!

Crickets…wish that other guy would wander in this thread

V8a6- have you had a chance to put any more miles on your setup? Any further impressions?

Ill see if I cant get some more info from the local V10 people. See If I cant get some of them to talk. I know one of them is who A6 was talking about

That is awesome!!!

Can’t wait to install my manifolds and exhaust then get it tuned. I should be up and running by July.

I asked for more info and I got this. There is a lot more this is just a teaser.

Anymore info or videos of the exhaust AND headers on the S6?

Suposidly there will be more information on alot of the v10 stuff not this friday but next
