Good because all of this anticipation is literally killing me. Literally dying to purchase a '11 S6 and mod it up, but I want to wait until I can firstly afford it and secondly for the final result.

What suspension modifications have you made to be able to use this extra power?
The car is still at the shop back in Canada, getting small issues taken care of, and troubleshooting misfires on cylinder 4 and 5. We didnt put the tune on it, because you never want to put a tune on a car that is not running right to begin with.
One of the things that is prime suspect for the misfires is the fuel injectors. We had new coil packs and spark plugs, plus a carbon clean, when the car was in Detroit. So, those were all ruled out. I would have had the injectors swapped earlier, except that they are pretty expensive when you are buying ten new ones.
Well, the guys finally pulled them last week, and reported that four out of the ten fell apart when removed. It is pretty much certain that they were still the original ones, so it is a good chance that they were the source of the problem.
We were thinking of doing a rebuild of them before we saw their condition, but because of the age and mileage, I decided to go with all new units. Should have them in within the next couple of weeks, and hopefully that will solve the misfire issues.
Once the car is running right, Ill finally get the ECU and TCU tune on the car, that I have been waiting SOOOOO long for. Its been a long journey (coming up to two years) but I can finally see that we are getting close to completion.
Good for you. If you havent already check the mother says clean your injectors thread. Its pretty eye opening. The RS4 guys have had a ton of issues and even guys who dont have issues have been sending there injectors out for cleaning and getting back some pretty staggering results. Some injectors have been off by as much as 20 percent.
When you pull the injectors and they fall apart like that. thats a sign that they were clearly not in good shape as it is.
I have been really thinking about getting an S6 and doing some deep research on them and the issues they have. Injectors are one of the top issues.Ill maybe start a thread about it to help keep more and more people educated.
If you read through some of the threads in the S6 section here you will find lots of these guys had injector issues. But since the issues are so scattered between so many different threads. It is hard to really have that in the spot light like it should be

You are right, I noticed in my reading too of other S6 experiences, fuel injectors being the cause of misfires. I think what makes it tricky is that no one has been able to come up with a way to know if they are the cause with certainty, aside from pulling them all and sending them out to be tested.
I guess if the misfires were on one cylinder, then you could swap injectors with another and see what happens. However, since it looks like simply removing them could cause further issues, I dont think even that test would be the best way to know 100% if they were causing an issue.
If anyone can think up a way to pinpoint a misfire as an injector issue without removing them, then I think that would be a great trouibleshooting tool, since replacing them all, or even having them all pulled and sent out for testing, is not a small or cheap ordeal.
Anyway, by the time I am done I will have replaced pretty much every critical component attached to the engine block with new parts. Hopefully the new injectors take care of the misfire issue, and the car purrs like a kitten at idle, and barks like a rabid dog at WOT
Unfortunately, the injectors in the RS4 are a different model, and the v10 ones (shared with the A6 3.2 and others) are even more expensive.
Im going to hold on to my old injectors (the ones that survived removal) and have them sent out at some point for testing and rebuild. Cant hurt to have a spare set on the shelf ready for install, and also it will be interesting to see how bad their current condition is.
Well and I think if you search a lot of threads here in this section you will see several of the S6 guys had the dealership replace there injectors.
It might be a good idea to bring more attention to this.
V10A6 I would love to see how the results come back from injector testing. The fact that several of the injectors fell apart on removal says something on its own. When that happens to the RS4 guys it usually equates to those injectors already having issues.
Yup, I think you guys nailed it… the v10 injectors are likely going through the exact same stuff the RS4 guys are dealing with.
I will eventually get mine tested, but it will probably be late in the year or early next. Every single penny I have right now, is going directly to getting this car on the road.
So can we test our injectors with VagCom? Looks like you can get some used injectors fairly cheap $20-65 depending on where you buy. Then you’ll have to get them cleaned but Mr.injector does a cleaning for $17.50 per injector. Seems like a lot of money but
New = $116 on GAP x 10 = $1160
Used = appr. $37-82 recon x 10 = $370-820
Sadly you cant test the injectors with vag com. The computer system is basically testing the injectors each time you turn on the car but that test and the other system checks dont have the ability to tell if there is an issue until there is a very big issue. Lots of the RS4 guys had some serious issues and were really flowing badly on some injectors.
The 3.2 that the V10 shares its injectors with seems to have a very common failure rate as well. So this might be a good thing to look into as a needed prevenitive maintanence thing.
I wouldn’t say it’s a 30i interval for these but this is a v10 and they are spraying plus carbon build up. Not sure if there are any injector upgrades vs just minimizing carbon but that will probably suffice.
Fighting carbon is a good start. Things like a good fuel system cleaner and the JHM intake spacers will help keep the carbon at bay for longer while helping the car run stronger and more consistant the rest of the time
I had an injector which was causing misfires. The fault reading was:
Lean Fault Idle bank 2. You can swap plugs and coil to see if it follows and if it does not then it is the injector.
I am replacing all my injectors either way with the rebuild.
Hello everyone. I’ve been stalking the page for awhile now. I’ve been looking into getting the c6 s6 and do a project and I love all the info and play by play v8a6 has put out for the community.
Now for what I’ve found, a very high mile s6 v10 for a very cheap price. I live in North Carolina and there aren’t many here. This car has been at the dealer for awhile so I figured I could shoot then a lower price. I’ve also found slightly used engines for about $8000. My question is should I go this route to restore/ improve or would you guys recommend getting one with lower miles and maintain/ improve (btw the car has 175k miles and i haven’t test driven it, it’s in Virginia)
Also, I want those headers! Jhm looks like they do fantastic work! I may have to send it to them for future work whenever I get one
