This has been going on since I got the car, but it's getting worse

So I’ve had this issue with the car since day one, but it’s getting worse and worse. Here’s the facts:

-Doesn’t matter if the car is warm or cold, and the temperature outside does not have any affect on it.
-It RARELY does it if the car has been running/driven for a while, say 10 minutes or more. But it does happen 1/10 times
-I can get it to do it every time if the car has been running for only a few minutes
-It does it whether the car is only in accessory, or if it’s running, as show in the videos
-Only codes in VAGCOM are some weird short to ground codes, which I will post later on today.
-Over the past few months, the car has started misfiring while it’s doing this, then it dies a few seconds later.
-Sometimes it will only run for a second, sometimes it goes for 3-5 seconds then dies.
-Sometimes the engine turns off right away, but the electronics keep going for a few seconds (see second video)

Other things that could be related:
-My warning chime that I have left my lights on never works, but I can get it to make the sound if I leave a blinker on and shut off the car(so the speaker/buzzer is operational).
-My dome lights only turn on if I turn the key off very very slowly and then remove it. If I just shut the car off fast and remove the key, my dome lights won’t come on until I open the door.
-The tumbler for my key/ignition feels sloppy/sticky

So I’m puzzled. The battery in the car is only 2 years old. The contacts are very clean.

I’d be willing to bet it is related to the tumbler/key mechanism.

Yeah that’s kind of what I’m thinking. Anyone else?

Seems like the tumbler. Have you contacted any Audi dealerships to see if they’ve seen this before? This seems like the type of problem that is so unique a tech would recognize the issue if he’d seen it before. Maybe ask Jimmybones on AZ?

Let’s get this figured out. It’s been getting really bad recently. See video:

The miss-fire makes me ;D

^hahaha, holy shit, that last video really shows it. Send that shit to AoA!

Joe, that has to be somthing electrical installed in the car.

Check your head unit, and since you got the car used, check the wireing going to the cluch peddle.

My 05 Denali will do the same thing, but I also have revelco installed in it. I pop fuses in the fucking truck, AC/ heater controls, but my setup isn’t even connected to them.

try turning the car off with the key in the ignition…wait a sec…then remove

bet it doesn’t happen (the running on thing) when you do it that way. bet a Coke. Seems like you’re flicking the key out of a 8 year old cars weakened ignition switch/lock

then when it doesn’t run on, and i’ve cured your ‘issue’, will you please stop bumping this boring ass thread?

Yeah I do have an aftermarket stereo but it has been doing this since I got the car. At that time it had the stock radio

You owe me a coke motherfucker

SHIT

^^^LOL. You guys are hilarious.

Joe check out this thread: http://forums.fourtitude.com/showthread.php?5371346-Still-runs-with-key-out-VCDS-gives-little-clue

Seems similar to what you’re going through

Great find, I hope this solves Joe’s problem.

Haha, how funny would it be if it was just that one screw causing this issue.

Hopefully that solves it, good luck Joe.

Thanks apat, I will check that as soon as I get home. Wow if that’s the problem that would be awesome.

Thanks guys

Thats 2 coke bets you have lost now…

Did it solve the issue Joe

Haven’t had a chance to look at it. Busy with work/school. Monday I’ll take a look

If it fixes it Saki owes me 3 cokes… ;D

at this rate, Saki better have shares in Coke!!

UPDATE.

Figured out that my aftermarket head uni or my valentine 1 must have been causing the issue. Removed the radar detector and put the stock radio back in and the issue is gone. Weird

figures. This is why dealers deny warranty coverage for everything when you modify anything.
