thoughts on what this noise could be

hearing a real bad squeak that is speed dependent but only when the car is cold, once everything is up to temp it completely goes away.

This is right at start up going through cold start:

this is after the engine settles:

Sounds very belt /pulley related to me. It’s not that loud though. Or bearing maybe?

Makes sense that it’s only when cold then goes away since it hasn’t really been cold till this week. Could have been potentially present for a while (say since stage 3) but you didn’t hear it yet as it has been pretty warm.

Had a very similar squeak on an accessory belt for a B6 A4 1.8t avant 10 years ago. Gf cured it with wd40. Not ideal on a supercharger belt if that’s what yours is lol

Next time Magnuson tries to fix stage 3 and go back into beta testing ask them to check all the pulleys and make sure they’re properly aligned/seated. Sounds like your something didn’t go back right when your car got put back together last time.

definitely belt related, does it shriek when you rev the engine more when cold? might be a dumb question but is the belt for the S/C upgrade a different length than stock?

it can be heard when going under an overpass since it echoes off the walls

That definitly sounds like belt or pulley squeal. If you quickly free rev the motor and the squeal gets louder and longer. You can get something called belt dressing at autozone or a auto parts store. That makes the belt more sticky.

Just keep in mind you would rather not use that as an option if possible. There might be an adjustment tensioner for the belt that you should try first.

I had the same squeak on my B8 and it was the accessory belt not the supercharger that was the source of the noise
