Tial failure rate.

Since we have beaten the VF and PES issues in the other platforms and I have been around long enough to stop people from getting hybrid ko4s that didn’t work when all the super stupid desk top pencile pusher performance punks tryed to say they were going to work.

I think most people don’t know or maybe most forgot. This tial thing is just another recreation of the old sucker move with the Buehn Engineering - Blown Turbos.

with Buehn Engineering back in the day I seem to remember the same kinda chants and lack of performance. The only think that made the Buehn turbos seem like they were good were the people that were hopeing to chear for them to be good. In the end there were more then 50+ people that got ripped off… WHY you ask… well Buehn was telling people that if they went on line and complained about the turbos blowing they wouldnt get there warranty coverage and they would be out of money.

what happened is there was a long list of failures but buehn was making so much money that they would make sure to just send out more bad turbos to cover the turbos that failed. In the end many people over time either had turbos that failed or turbos that just didn’t perform.

he is one of the short list.

I wanted to look into what looks like a tial failure trail that seems to be swept under the rug. I know a shop out East that said they have had 3 Tial turbos fail before the customers cars even left the shop. I know back in the day the waste gates would fail with in the first week. Then they had waste gates that were so tight they ended up making too much boost and blew several peoples motors.

I know there have been a few stroys from a frew shops out east and out west. Ill see IF i can’t get more information.

Im not saying that every tial is bad. I just don’t think many people have come forward as just a few years ago there wree packs of people comming out talking about there faied Tial turbos.

Guy I know running 605 turbos in New york hasn’t left the tuners shop & their going on set # 3. His buddy has the same problem @ another shop “large amounts of smoke upon start up” also hasn’t left the shop.

really? Haven’t heard any of this…but maybe that’s the point!

hopefully not the case

i have heard some stories of the tial compressor housings cracking and some tial’s with less then 1000 miles on the the compressor wheel brakes and bends the blade’s.

I know one guy that had tial turbos. His compressure nut wasn’t on tight and it came off on start up. kinda spelled fail to me. He got them replaced but never put in the replacement set. I don’t know much more then taht.

In all fairness I would shift a very large percentage of failed turbos onto the end user or installer as hardly anyone follows the does & don’t when upgrading but this I would say faulty.

Samething happened to this guy on his 1st set!

Jacob Buehn was a friend of mine, and to compare his garage fake BS to TiAL is crazy. TiAL is proven in NHRA, F1, etc and have great fab processes.

Pretty much TiAL is the gold standard that I compare other turbos to.

Truth bomb! I don’t think those were 2873s… Or maybe mine will be different…?

You are correct, he went to HTA 2871.

JFC people, this thread is so obviously full of bad second hand info its appalling. Please just look at Tial turbos as tial turbos. There is no quality issue at hand on these turbos or any Tial product. Are we all talking about 650/770s or “tial turbos” as in other platforms or Porsche fitments or what? Tial parts at a base are comparable to audi as a base. Good stuff. I have seen or heard of 0 QA issues and think there is some rumor mill bs going on.

bad installs, bad tunes and so on dont count.

I nkow first hand that the first tial turbos for the Audi were a large failure. The second and third gen tials are getting better.

Tial as a company is a great company. I agree there is a failure rate that is going to come with any turbo. The tials did have a bad rete in the begging. I remember seeing some of the first tial turbos. They really were not impressibe.

tobe honest the biggest issues with tials is that tehre isn’t any real technical people left in the B5 game. All you have is a buntch of guys that can bolt on parts that have opened up shops and then you have a buntch of enthusasts that don’t have a deep technical ability that are adding nothing deeply technical.

This isn’t to say that they don’t have a good turbos. Its just you don’t have anyone that had any idea what there good for.

I simply disagree with that accuracy or that. There was never a bad batch or versions or anything. I have intimate knowledge of some of the first sets. I am pretty confident you have some bad info.
