Time for More Maintenace-Belt, Pulleys, Waterpump, and More Oil Leaks!

Let me know what you find about the IM. I’m running an IM without flaps and considering a new IM + JHM tune. But it’s easier to get the tune first. Just want to know if there’s no point to the tune without a new IM.

This is what I found in my intake valves:

Ordered a new intake from JHM.

Have the injectors out for cleaning. I think I had one stuck open. Looking forward to see how it runs with good fuel and air delivery!

Will keep everyone posted!

Got the injectors back. One bad injector, leaking. Installed 9 cleaned injectors, and one new one… Installed new intake manifold.
Cleared codes.
Start car, check engine light back on. White smoke coming from passenger side exhaust. Driver side exhaust normal. Stock exhaust, no X pipe.
Pulled codes:

Switched the HP fuel pumps from side to side with no effect.

Trying to figure out the right channels to log and how to log each ECU. Just dont use Vag-Com enough.

Was able to log group 106, 140 and 103.

Group 140 lists “Steering Angle” - Anyone know what this is?

Group 106 Lists Load % - not sure what this is.

Need to find a good reference to understand these measuring blocks and codes.

The white smoke reminds me of when I used seafoam to clean the deposits in my V8 Quttro years ago.
More smoke develops as the car warms up, and I rev the engine a bit.

FWIW, the fuel rails and both HP fuel pumps are all plumbed together for a common high pressure supply to both banks of injectors.

If your leaking injector dumped a lot of raw fuel into the cylinder and it ended up in the cat, you will get a lot of white smoke for a while out of the exhaust on that side.

A few years ago, I had an injector stick open and it actually dumped enough fuel into one of my cylinders to hydro lock the engine. I had the key on (engine off) for a while when I was running diagnostics. When I went to start the engine, it would not even crank. I pulled the plug in that cylinder and it was full of fuel. After replacing the injector and changing the oil, the engine fired right up and it was blowing out a lot of foul smelling white smoke. I thought for sure the cat would be toast. More than two years and about 45,000 miles later, I still have not had any emission related codes.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, thinking about the fuel lines, wasn’t sure if switching the pumps would make any difference, except for maybe electrical connection.
I had the same experience happen a couple times, hydrolocking the engine, will diagnosing the initial problem, so hopefully my cats on the passenger side are just contaminated. I haven’t gotten the car up to full temp yet, will try that next.

Went out yesterday, cleared codes, started car, pulled codes, no engine codes. Still pouring white smoke out of passenger side exhaust.

Drove car, brought up to temp, several full throttle runs to 80-100 mph. Dammmm! The car runs better that it ever has in my last 85K of ownership. The new intake, cleaned and new injectors, JHM tune, JHM Pulley have all come together………finally.

I think my low fuel pressure and misfire codes were due to a bad(leaky) fuel injector (replaced with new) and my lack of experience with VAGCOM - I forgot to read and clear codes from Engine #2.

Going to pull the intake apart and take some pictures to capture actual issues with my old intake for the record.
Fun to drive the S6 again!

Time to address the exhaust, brakes and change the tranny fluid and filter.
