Tint Thread.

What’s the latest on window tinting? What’s best?

I had Huper Optik window tint on my 2007 S4 (40%, pictured below) and I quite liked it. Kept the car cool in the summer, but didn’t look too gangsta. Just wondered if there have been any new developments since then in the window tinting game? It was like $450 and that was a deal (regular $600!)

Other ceramic options that aren’t so expensive?
Is ceramic still the way, or is it over-rated?

What say you? Tell us what you know, show us what you’ve got.

Here’s my B7 with HO 40%

I loved the Huper Optik on my S4 (I’ll post a pic later) for the same reasons.

I’m looking to get the front windows of my jeep tinted, may have to go with some gangster film to match the sheen of the stock tint (unfortunately)

Huperoptik is still the bee’s knees in tint. Any of the high end tint that a manufacture offers is going to be good though. Mine is Formula 1 by llumar which is probably the most popular film outside of huper. They also makes this stuff called Llumar Air Blue which is 80% or something but it has the heat/uv deflection of a darker film. I’m getting that put on my windshield this summer for heat and glare reduction reasons. Around here $300 is the norm for high end film installed. $550 for huper iirc.

I had Madico Charcool on the A4 and it was great. Went perfect with the unpainted lowers lol

oof, a full tint job around here is like $300 sans windshield

Saki who did your ho tint?

a place in mississauga called KROWN

there’s apparently a huper optik place in London…but when i was looking they were charging 700 dolars.

i read on rfd that the huper optik wasn’t really german at all…just good marketing liike sham wow for example.

You know the German’s make good stuff

Yeah right up to the point when they decide to make/design timing components for engines lol

fixed in light of the shamwow guy’s legal issues

you should read the whole story there. I think it was a justified beating, and the courts and legal system agreed.

He was with a hooker in his hotel room, and they were making out. His tongue was in her mouth…and she bit down on it full strength. She wouldn’t let go. He pushed her, and then hit her to make her let go. They both admitted this in their story to the police.

yeah I’ve read about, didnt see the $1000 part though

Guys, post pictures of your car so we can get an idea of what your tint looks like. Saying ‘so and so 20%’ doesn’t cut it! Come on Joe…I know you love posting those post-detail pics.

seriously…I want a photo of her. $1000 better be a pretty awesome babe.

I find it funny that he paid her ‘$1000 in twenties’ but there was only $930 in her purse. How’d she spend $70 so fast?

ok ok. Fine

35% LLumar

that looks pretty light. Similar to my 40% HO. For those who don’t know (I didn’t before I got tinted) the % referenced is the amount of light that is allowed to go through. So 0% = opaque. 100% = transparent

also keep in mind the factory tint is a few %

this may be a good place to mention state laws on tint, mass is 35% total… if they break out the meter on you at night make sure to turn on the overhead lights

I’m almost positive you have that backwards. The way the shops in NY explain the tint % is as follows: The % = the percentage of light that can pass through the glass. So 0% tint would be opaque, they call 5% “Limo tint.” I have 35% tint on all windows sans the windshield (Llumar) and will post pics later. Here in NY they also have laws limiting how dark you can go on the front two windows, anything behind them can be 0%. The winshield is off limits with the exception of the top 4" iirc.

I got the description right but transposed the words in the summary.

Edited.

Now please delete your post so I don’t look dumb lol  JK.

Good point Beem re tint laws

Ontario - there is no law. All at the officer’s discretion. He should be able to identify the front seat occupants easily. Unfortunately this leaves lots of grey area.

Personally, I thought 40% HO (which looks like 30-35% regular tint according to the HO installer) was perfect…enough to be private and protective…but light enough to let cops see the driver is a tall motherfucker in a suit, rather than a hotbox full of high school students.

^lol I transposed the words when I read it, yeah its percent transmittance

strange law, that grey area sucks.

was yours 40% film or 40% when installed (factoring the oem tint)

Another good measure if they break out the meter, open your sun roof assuming it’s during the day and sunny outside.
