Titanium Exhausts?

I posed the question on AZ, but things have gotten way out of hand. Here is the deal. My Evolution X had a Tomei Titanium CBE and it was absolutely the most beautiful sounding exhaust I have ever heard. I have heard some of the other Ti systems out there for other cars, and they sound superior to SS offerings. There is also a benefit of weight savings, although I know it really doesn’t matter for the size of the RS4’s. Got it. Understood. As first mentioned the SOUND IS BEAUTIFUL. So, do we have any manufacturers, or even one offs, that have Ti offerings? I saw the Akropovic, but it was for the Avant. Any help would be great. Thanks!

Yeah the weight savings could be pretty big, but they’re only about 20 lbs lighter thqn a high quality SS system. 20lbs is nothing to sneeze at though. Every little bit helps.

If you like the sound that’s the motivation. Unfortunately I reckon it will be about 3000+ dollars for a catback…and you will need to find someone to one off it for you. And it might suck.

Not sure I would take the chance personally.

Does the avant have a different exhaust setup?

As I understand it, the Avant and the are the same.

That is the question I have. If its the same chassis then I am guessing it should mate up with minimal effort. I have contacted Touge Factory in Chicago to see if they are willing o build it. We will just have to see.

For what it’s worth Motorklasse made a small run of titanium exhausts for the B6 S4 back in the day. I would think they could be made to fit, but finding a set would be tricky, and believe they were 2.25".

You will net about 10-15lbs tops. It will cost you at least 3 times more. If you need a fixture for them to use let me know. I have no use for it anymore. I’m only doing Porsche products.

Last advice, use flex joints everywhere you can or else the exhaust will crack. Even Porsche OEM exhaust out of titanium crack.

I forgot to mention.

All the hardware will be tough to source out of titanium.
Flanges
02 bungs
v-bands
flex joints
mufflers
hangers
2.75" piping

Not impossible but it will be hard.

That sucks. I just don’t understand how Tomei can build great examples, but we can get that same quality for similar price. I spent 3 years in Japan and it is crawling with European cars. Liberty Walk makes amazing European cars. Tomei is based out of Machida and there is a plethora of German cars there…Ti should be cheaper and more accessible here, but somehow is more costly??? WTF…

Titanium should be cheaper and more accessible than stainless steel?

I think he meant Ti availability and price should be better here than in japan. Not relative to stainless steel

Correct.

Frankly I don’t think it has to do with availability as everyone knows most sources for best $. It has to do with the economy contraction in Japan that has been going on for decades. I would still find it hard to imagine, that you can just the tubing for sub 2k. Let alone mandrel inconel / titanium tubing - ha now you are talking $$$$. Hence a lot of them are cut pieces made into a radius.

Ah. Sounded weird

Your car is pretty stealth as is. It has a stock cat back and stock wheels right? Black window trim. I wanted to repaint the trim for you when I was there and saw it lol. Any plans with that?

I am saving up as there is no need to spend money on this island. I am looking into getting all the trim painted or wrapped in the Titanium finish, very conservative drop with springs or coilovers, Rotiform or other aftermarket 19x10 with 275 wides aggressive offset, and some type of CBE. I am hoping to price Titanium maybe in the 3K range or just roll with a larger diameter SS type.

I would skip rotiform unless you’re best friends with Brian and just want to give him some money.

Heavy, copycat designs and at the end of the day, quality issues have been ridiculously bad.

Damn!! I looked at CCW Classics, but they don’t do 19’s…I thought of BBS or even Work Meisters, but just not too many sitting around with necessary bolt patterns or offsets… BC looked good too, but I really liked the IDTs…Now I might have to get the lowdown…Do you have any links??

My two cents:

  • Stick with the JHM SS exhaust
  • Go with OEM RS4 wheels.

Spend the spare money going stage 4

Not looking to go Stage IV. I like the OEMs, but still crave for individuality. Plus, there are a lot of nice wheel offerings… The JHM is not off the table yet, but if I can get a Ti maybe built for 3K I would be a happy dude…

…but your just hoping that a titanium setup will just sound better? Have you heard two identically built exhaust that were only different by material? and the titanium version sounded WAY better? I think you should go with the great option that is available, fast intentions built exhaust are amazing quality and you won’t be disappointed. Spend time worrying about other things instead of one off exhausts, just being honest. Use the custom exhaust cash for some one off wheels or something.
