Hey fellas quick question: What is a safe tire tread difference that won’t affect overheating or burning up the transfer case? My front tires are brand new and the rears have 6/16ths so do you guys think I could squeeze a few thousand more miles or just be safe and replace those as well to save the differential from over working?
What are the fronts?
if it’s 12/16" vs. 6/16" that means the new tires are 3/4" taller than the old ones. That’s about 2.9%. I believe that’s pushing it, but not crazy.
What is the depth on the new ones? Probably not 12/16"…
yeah this question has come up before and I think you’d need the old tires worn down to nearly being slicks before you approached the 3% limit
Just do the math. Find out what the tread depth is for a new tire vs yours.
ok thanks guys. yeah it seems I’m within the variable zone, so I’ll probably just stick em out for a lil while more. Appreciate the info!
