Trivia question:

Which wheel/tire combo weighs more:

VMR710, 19"x8.5" w/ Michelin Pilot Super Sport 255/35/19

or

VMR708, 18" x 8.0" w/Dunlop Winter Sport M3 235/45/18??

Just did my summer/winter swap and was curious myself, so I weighed them…

Any guesses as to the overall weight of each setup?

the summers should be around 48.5lbs

the winters should be around 52lbs (those winter tires are heavy 28lbs).

710 is lighter than 708

Tires are light all around. The Dunlop aren’t 28.

I have those in 255 35 19 on my rs4

Weighed them @ around 25

Just going by Tirerack

Just going by scales

What’s the newer one the m3 or the 3d?

Think the 3d are newer. Same size for 3d per tirerack 235/45/18 weighed 24lbs.

Also not many choices for the m3.

Just 215/45/17 and 235/45/18

And Tirerack has the SP wintersport 3d 255/35/19 at 25lbs.

Excellent detective work, tsivas!

Scale showed summers at 48.0 and winters at 52.0.

On a related note, my PSSs have gotten pretty noisy as they’ve worn. I’m at about 15K miles on them now, and they drone at highway speeds (even with all the goo from the drag strip gone!). Winters are much quieter.

I think the difference is primarily down to the wheels. 23 vs 26

Thanks- Tirerack and VMR webpage with wheels on scale made it pretty close to yours.

Wheels are pretty close in weight with 19s (24.5 lbs) and 18s (24.0 lbs)

Main difference is in tire weight as tire rack had indicated.

19 inch summers

18 inch winters - couldn’t find 18x8, saw 18x8.5- thought it was close enough… Yours were actually a 1/2 lb lighter being 18x8.

Wow the 708 is that light? What offset is that one?

Edit: just saw, 45

Which ones did you actually own? I had the et38 on my s4, and they were a bit heavier.

I’m surprised at how heavy the 710 is.

Ever consider the tsw Nurburgring ?? They’re a good bit lighter and are et32, which would be perfect on an s4 in most cases.

Also enkei raijin (or something). Same style and quite light.

Both are around $1000

I’ll be adding the 19 inch gunmetal TSW nurburgrings soon.

~45 lbs with tires compared to the 51 lbs of titaniums and pilot sports.

Should be nice with the Jhm front and rear rotors.

13.25 lbs shed per corner up front and 10.5 lbs in rear with the rotor/wheel combo compared to stock rotor/titaniums

Nurburgrings were around $312 a wheel.

That’s what Apr’s dealer’s car had on it… The one that went to the strip with the 1740 this week.

What size were those tsw you were looking at?

They have boatloads of sizes now. Used to be slim pickings four years ago when they came out.

19x9.5 et20 rear and et 25 front would be great on an rs4 with 275.35.19. Or 19*9 et 15 and 20 with 255.35.19

Although I have a hard time leaving the oem rs4 wheel behind. They’re 19*9 et29 and only weigh 26.5lbs each and fit the car nicely looks wise. Hard to beat.

On an s4 you can basically add 15 mm to those offset numbers. 19*9 et 30 and 35 might work well.

Our b8 a4 has 19*8.5 et38 and it could use another 8-10mm to around et30.
