As some of you know I dropped the full JHM exhaust and tune and went back to a cat-less full Milltek exhaust and Unitronic tune.
I plan on keeping the Milltek even though it’s not as optimized for power as the JHM system… I just love the sound so much.
What I do want to change is the tune, and go back to JHM. I haven’t spoken with them yet as to whether or not I can purchase a tune again (since it’s not officially released yet)… but if I can purchase it again, I would like to do some test runs with my current Unitronic tune (stage 1+ or 2+ whatever it’s called, that’s meant for a cat-less system) before I drop it. I’m not trying to compare to prove anything… I still believe the JHM tune is better than the Unitronic (smoothness and power), I would just like to have some true results for the record.
What is the current “standard” method of logging performance stats without going to a drag strip?
Yes you’re right. I dropped the jhm tune cause of the downed servers and lack of support for tune revisions on my type of ecu.
if they have their server situation squared away I would love to get back into the tune. Didn’t feel much of a difference but after driving on the unitronic for a bit now I have to say jhms tune is smoother.
If there is no difference why do you want it back? And why did you switch from it in the first place? Servers? You were already tuned. Who cares about the flashing servers that went down six months after you got tuned. You were already tuned!
None of this makes sense.
For the record I have NEVER heard anyone (who didn’t work for unitronic) who thought uni was even close to the JHM tune. In fact most people say something like “the unitronic RS4 tune made little to no discernable difference”.
Whereas you just said (again) that it was equal. This is odd because when you got the JHM tune, you said it made your car faster than your old PES supercharger…and back when you got your pes supercharger, you described it as night and day faster than your unitronic tune +Milltek setup.
This feels like a candid camera episode for the quattroworld blog.
Like I said the jhm tune felt smoother, that’s why I’m interested in going back. I say both tunes feel the same (except for jhm being smoother)… But hey I could be wrong, I also thought my car was fast with the pes sc lol.
This isnt a conspiracy, don’t worry about trying to make sense of my unorthodox decisions…
I don’t have to log results and can just quietly get the tune, just thought people here would be interested since no one has done a comparison.
back to the original question (rephrased)… If anyone is interested in how unitronic performs… What is the common method of logging results without going to a drag strip?
a) they are often only done in one gear, which doesn’t really do very well at comparing one tune to another, since many of a tune’s weaknesses show up in the driving dynamics, not just straight power.
b) if one person logs downhill and the other logs flat, the comparison is useless
You can find someone with a pbox if you want, but to be honest a dragstrip timeslip is the best performance test for these cars, since there is a reasonable level of standardization and certification.
If you have my number still feel free to text me. Ill see what I can do to get you back into the jhm tune. Im not promising anything but being that you were already jhm tuned I might be able to wave some if not all the cost. I personally don’t handle or have any connections to what jhm charges but this situation should lend itself to fall into something I might be able to help
personally, I would be surprised if JHM would give kryptonik a free tune after he jumped on the quattrofail bandwagon, and was kissing Mick’s ass while piling on JHM (which we now know was Mick being a deranged liar, and all of his problems were caused by himself and his shop).
Krytponik, you seemed FAR too happy to shit on JHM in this post.
the flywheel complaints were strange…considering you posted that the chatter was no big deal and was just par for the LWFW course in this post on audizoo only 3 months earlier
I’d vote for JHM not to give you the tune at all after you joining Mick’s witch hunt/ smear campaign. It’s kind of ridiculous that you drop all JHM parts based on a forum full of failures, but I guess people learn from mistakes.
Ok saki that’s blowing things way out of proportion and making me look like I bashed JHM… which I never did…
For the record I only parted away with the tune, exhaust and rotors (upgraded to stoptech). Everything else is still on and fine. I’ll admit seeing Mick’s posts scared me a bit and pushed me into contimplating removing most of the JHM mods… you can’t make me look like a bad guy because of that, how am I supposed to know if he’s talking the truth or not. I don’t browse these forums as much as I used to to know the full story behind everything.
I def. didn’t follow any kind of bandwagon bashing JHM… I simply responded to a post that was complaining about some JHM products and I gave my input as well… nothing more than constructive criticism/review of the parts I have/had. I’m not going from forum to forum parading around starting new threads putting down JHM, that’s bashing…
About the flywheel chatter… you’re right on both occasions… reason that at one point it has been tollerable and then not is because it has progressed to get louder and more obvious than before. It’s not strange for someone’s feelings of something to change in 3 months.
Look, I’ve been wanting to get back into the forum discussions and being involved in the RS4 community with constructive info… and since I was invited to participate on these forums with the notion that this is the place to be for true performance intel… I was hoping I could continue here. If I’m just going to be ridiculed for poor decisions I’ve made in the past and be branded a JHM basher (which boggles my mind), than I’ll peacefully go elsewhere… which would simply suck.
For the record I didn’t drop all of JHM’s parts… just tune, exhaust and rotors.
Also never joined any kind of JHM bashing bandwagon… actually never bashed JHM on anything, other than constructive criticism on some of their products.
I don’t see why they would turn me down with the good standing relationship we’ve always had. Would be surprised if they told me they didn’t want to give me a tune again.
Sounds like you want to be here and you seem like a pretty decent guy, unlike the man we were comparing you to, which I admit isn’t fair. But when you post behind or are agreeing with a lunatic like Mick I’m sure you can imagine how that looks to the rest of us logical S4/RS4 enthusiasts. I think you should get some dragstrip runs with the UNI tune and then get re-JHM tuned to give the RS4 world a little comparison with real world test…F logs. Then maybe the next guy won’t drink the QF koolaid like you…but at least it didn’t kill you. Good luck with whatever mod route you take.
Appreciate the understanding of my situation… I also understand where you guys are coming from with all of this and am not getting offended by it. Looking forward to getting into some good conversations here.
Yea I’m starting to realize the drag strip is going to be best, especially since I have some previous runs under my belt.
I remember reading a post not too long ago around here of a few local guys (s4/rs4) wanting to go to englishtown or atco.
Englishtown seems to be closed since 12/2/12.
Atco has 12/8 (sat) and 12/9 (sun) open for “open test & tune - anything can run” at 10:00 AM. Anyone up for getting together?
read your post on qfail, and again here where you admitted you got scared by Mick and then made that very public and dramatic post that you were ditching everything…that’s the definition of jumping on the anti JHM bandwagon.
When I saw that I notified dan right away (ask him when you contact him about tuning) because I thought “wtf did you guys do to him to deserve that!”. I always thought you were one of the guys we were lucky to have in the forums, and didn’t like seeing you unhappy with your parts. I know jhm doesn’t hit the forums, especially not qfail, so they probably didn’t even know what you were doing. He had no idea and contacted you (tried to but got no reply)
Hopefully you realize how out in left field Mick was/is and you can get back to enjoying your car/parts.
