Tunes: Unitronic vs JHM (RS4)

I’d vote for JHM not to give you the tune at all after you joining Mick’s witch hunt/ smear campaign. It’s kind of ridiculous that you drop all JHM parts based on a forum full of failures, but I guess people learn from mistakes.

wow!! not all too surprised about this since you already bought into the PES bullshit

Yeah if I were JHM I wouldnt give you the tune back even if you paid triple the price
as the saying goes, you never knew what you had till its gone…

Good point… I guess I’ll try to hit the drag strip… just worried they’ll be closing soon if not already for the season.

I’ll contact you soon… I appreciate the gesture but I really don’t mind paying for it again. I don’t expect any favors.

Ok saki that’s blowing things way out of proportion and making me look like I bashed JHM… which I never did…

For the record I only parted away with the tune, exhaust and rotors (upgraded to stoptech). Everything else is still on and fine. I’ll admit seeing Mick’s posts scared me a bit and pushed me into contimplating removing most of the JHM mods… you can’t make me look like a bad guy because of that, how am I supposed to know if he’s talking the truth or not. I don’t browse these forums as much as I used to to know the full story behind everything.

I def. didn’t follow any kind of bandwagon bashing JHM… I simply responded to a post that was complaining about some JHM products and I gave my input as well… nothing more than constructive criticism/review of the parts I have/had. I’m not going from forum to forum parading around starting new threads putting down JHM, that’s bashing…

About the flywheel chatter… you’re right on both occasions… reason that at one point it has been tollerable and then not is because it has progressed to get louder and more obvious than before. It’s not strange for someone’s feelings of something to change in 3 months.

Look, I’ve been wanting to get back into the forum discussions and being involved in the RS4 community with constructive info… and since I was invited to participate on these forums with the notion that this is the place to be for true performance intel… I was hoping I could continue here. If I’m just going to be ridiculed for poor decisions I’ve made in the past and be branded a JHM basher (which boggles my mind), than I’ll peacefully go elsewhere… which would simply suck.

For the record I didn’t drop all of JHM’s parts… just tune, exhaust and rotors.

Also never joined any kind of JHM bashing bandwagon… actually never bashed JHM on anything, other than constructive criticism on some of their products.

I don’t see why they would turn me down with the good standing relationship we’ve always had. Would be surprised if they told me they didn’t want to give me a tune again.

Sounds like you want to be here and you seem like a pretty decent guy, unlike the man we were comparing you to, which I admit isn’t fair. But when you post behind or are agreeing with a lunatic like Mick I’m sure you can imagine how that looks to the rest of us logical S4/RS4 enthusiasts. I think you should get some dragstrip runs with the UNI tune and then get re-JHM tuned to give the RS4 world a little comparison with real world test…F logs. Then maybe the next guy won’t drink the QF koolaid like you…but at least it didn’t kill you. Good luck with whatever mod route you take.

Appreciate the understanding of my situation… I also understand where you guys are coming from with all of this and am not getting offended by it. Looking forward to getting into some good conversations here.

Yea I’m starting to realize the drag strip is going to be best, especially since I have some previous runs under my belt.

I remember reading a post not too long ago around here of a few local guys (s4/rs4) wanting to go to englishtown or atco.

Englishtown seems to be closed since 12/2/12.

Atco has 12/8 (sat) and 12/9 (sun) open for “open test & tune - anything can run” at 10:00 AM. Anyone up for getting together?

Start a separate thread and try to get some Audis together up there for a dragstrip trip

There is no comparison needed.
I’m not a JHM bandwagoner, I just run what parts work and JHM produces results.

Good luck in your endeavors. I vote 2nd chance .

You kinda did exactly that.

read your post on qfail, and again here where you admitted you got scared by Mick and then made that very public and dramatic post that you were ditching everything…that’s the definition of jumping on the anti JHM bandwagon.

When I saw that I notified dan right away (ask him when you contact him about tuning) because I thought “wtf did you guys do to him to deserve that!”. I always thought you were one of the guys we were lucky to have in the forums, and didn’t like seeing you unhappy with your parts. I know jhm doesn’t hit the forums, especially not qfail, so they probably didn’t even know what you were doing. He had no idea and contacted you (tried to but got no reply)

Hopefully you realize how out in left field Mick was/is and you can get back to enjoying your car/parts.

Agreed sak.

Re the dragstrip, these guys need to go

Tsivas27 (B8 S4)
Ny07rs4
Tony RS4

They all live in long island so are full of reasons not to go because it is so far. If you guys can get in on a private track rental that might work well. Test and tune days are packed in the northeast.

Update everyone… I’ve ditched the unitronic tune without any testing… I just don’t care anymore.

I’ve decided instead to run stock for a few weeks before I switch to JHM tune so I can have a true instant evaluation of how the jhm tune improves the overall feeling of the car. Not that I have doubts, I just wanna be able to describe better how blown away I get ;). I’ll have the tune setup this weekend and will give a good description there.

Might be an idea to log and pbox your car before and after getting tuned. I’m not sure it would work to test immediately after…as in minutes after…but maybe a few days after. I am not sure how close (or not close) you are to Ny07RS4 and Tsivas, but would be cool to test it.

Same for your exhaust…would be neat to see how your car stacks up. Ny07RS4’s car is putting down some impressive acceleration considering it’s barely modified. Has a few lw parts and stock exhaust for the most part.

that’s actually a great idea… I’m up to meet them and do some pulls before I do the tune. And before I get the jhm exhaust again… I know I know.

lol

stick with what you’ve got for a while exhaust wise and see how it goes. You might find it’s able to give you a great performance option along with the sound you like best once you get everything together.

I think the problem is the only performance testing we saw for the RS4 in the past 4 years was a few pulls you and richi and 91 did…and mickf29’s disastrous dragstrip passes. It was tough to say what worked, and what didn’t work.

Now that we have a dozen RS4s making quarter mile passes we can see what configurations are delivering delta and how the car responds. For example on a day with great density altitude (-1200 or so) Mistro ran a time that was faster than any M90 supercharged RS4 or S4 time ever. He went 12.4 @ 113.7…with piggies, intake spacers, h pipe and coilovers lol. no tune. no catback. no downpipes. no lw parts.

There’s huge upside in the car. 2013 will be a BIG year for the bolt on parts RS4 record book…not to mention the SC cars we should see come online (JHM and AMD).

Hey how far are you from Long Island? Def down to help u out pre and post mods with pbox etc.

Let’s try and set something up with Paul and Tony. They are usually game for any festivities. The more RS4s the merrier.

sorry for stepping in… :-X

For those of you who are tuning are you using Kess, Byteshooter, Euro 090, or CMD?

Just wondering??

lol
