Two VAGCOM Malfunctions

I plan to take my '09 S6 to a VW dealer this week for the 55k mile service rather than driving over an hour to a Audi dealer (sorry but I can’t do it all myself).

While planning for the service I scanned my car and came up with two malfunctions in 01-Engine and 07-Control Head. I tried searching for the error codes but didn’t find anything. I don’t know how to cross reference these two codes. Any advice?

Don’t worry about the engine fault.

Are any of your MMI buttons sticky?

The heater controls seem to be having sticking issues but from the report given the last issues were months ago. I would clear both the codes and see if they come back.

Yes, a few of the MMI buttons are sticky. When pushed they stay depressed because the frame that the buttons sit in prevents them from coming back up immediately. So the Control Head is the MMI?

Do you suggest clearing codes too? I just bought the car this year. On the first scan about 30 days ago there were no codes.

Usually the MMI buttons are sticky because someone spilled something on them. This happened a lot with the older cars too since drinks would spill from the crappy cup holder above the radio like what Justin said.

You can take the MMI buttons out and take it apart to clean it but it is very time consuming and you have to be patient. To put it into perspective, the C6 A6/S6s require most of the center console to come apart to get the MMI buttons out so most shops charge like four hours of labor just to remove/replace the button panel.

Yes the 07-Control Head is the MMI screen and buttons panel. The AC/Heat control module is 08-Auto HVAC.

I would clear the codes.

Great advice as always JimmyBones

Wtmm we say clear the codes for the faults and check again in a few days because the codes look old. If the buttons are still getting stuck then your best off removing and cleaning them before them getting stuck causes a bigger issue with the mmi

Thanks guys. I’ll clear codes and report back if any other problems.

Clear the codes and check the codes next time you go to fill up the car. I find that a a good time to give. Report back even if you get no new codes it will be helpful to know
