EPL getting in on the mix as well.
Its like one big gay dyno orgy in the B8 S4 section.

AZ was good in the early days of the B8 platform. Ron led the charge in establishing the 1/4 mile as the only benchmark that mattered when it came to power adders. After a couple years, though, the forum just went to shit.
Since then, almost all of the knowledgeable guys have migrated over here.
Thanks Brandon I appreciate that! For me it’s how I always knew to check performance, as I always say we don’t drive our cars on the dynos we drive them on the road… Also, most street fun people have is quick stop light races and such so again drag racing tells us how that will go… Sometimes I feel like posting over there to correct these tuners but I’m sure I’d be ridiculed by the new smart folks and eventually banned anyway by the site owners, IE the vendors. Those that actually research anything will end up over here and see what is what… To those that don’t… not my problem…
the biggest mistake Anthony made was giving Ron shit for his paddles. Here was a guy making a great product the people wanted, and making no money on it (I don’t care if he made $100…that’s $0 in my book for all the time and aggro) and they chased him out by making him out to be a criminal. Ironically while protecting what was truly criminal…the dopes who are selling paddles for $700.
That was the turning point. Primetime then posted exclusively on audiworld and audirevolution. A number of people followed his lead. here is a guy who is completely selfless, super duper helpful, and knows what the fuck he’s talking about. On top of this his car is fast as fuck because he knows what he’s doing. Your dream site member. And Anthony basically tells him to fuck off.
At the end of the day, the business aspect of AZ B8 S4 is fine for the site owner. The integrity of information and the quality however is dogshit for the guys who own the cars. Unfortunately they don’t seem to realise.
When you sign up for these sites and there’s an ‘official’ advertiser etc. you assume there is some sort of vetting process and they’ve proven themselves worthy of being there. Reality is they’ve proven their cheques don’t bounce…and not much else. Unfortunately when you hold these guys’ feet to the fire, and vet them as members, you get infractions/banned.
Keep in mind though - what’s the business model for AZ?
I’ve come to learn it’s getting the new guys to go out and spend a chit load of cash on all the various mods. Once you’ve got the upgrades, what’s the point of you staying there to them? Maybe it’s to convince others to do the same, which I think they love if you’re lovey dovey. But if you think critically and challenge other products, then you’re rocking the boat, and I think they want you gone.
The best argument as to why they don’t care is how they have not improved the forum UI. No B8 S4 wiki, no B8 S4 tech section, no B8 S4 moderator to remove junk. They are pretty much happy with attrition and more people buying 1200 CF spoilers.
But anyways, I still see a use for that forum. There are tons of road course guys there that post very infrequently, while this forum is much more attractive for people who like to frequently participate. There just isn’t the same number of people here as AZ, so you are kind of required to participate if you hope to have your talking points discussed. Also, there are some opportunities to get good prices on certain items by connecting with vendors, like the BBK I got for 2.4k instead of 3.5k which Achtuning was trying to sell me.
Hear, hear!
I joined up on this site since I saw Ron and Brandon post here a lot.
I bought the cool paddles from Ron and posted a review on AZ as soon as I got it. Admittedly, it became more of a “principle” in addition to having cool paddles as well.
But AZ really has gone to shit. I was chatting with another “old” B8 S4 member on fb who doesn’t post there anymore either. But it’s fine. There are the occasional gems there still. Though the best of which is the “giovanni” threads.
az is good for volume.
Looking for info on what intake to buy? AR.
Selling your intake because you now know you bought the wrong one? AZ classifieds.
I have to agree, those that really know this platform are here and willing to help. I haven’t been posting at all but silently observing. I’ve learned so much from all of you that frequent this section. All of your inputs have influenced my decisions in modding and how I will approach my next outing at the 1/4 mile.
AZ is a zoo but I’m in there for the laughs and occasional good info. This is where I come to LEARN, be it technique for launch, the mechanical aspects of how this car functions, or what parts are good/waste of money. Some people find it intimidating here and it can be if you spew out crap, you will get called on your bs. yourself, drob, saki, primetime, dp, justinincredible, jones and even sky have basically set the knowledge I have about this car and for that I thank you all. Anyways, I hope I can help others from my own experience if this recipe works come spring (and it should based because its been proven to work with all of your cars).
As others have said AR and AZ both server their purpose. It would be nice to have one place to go to but not sure that would ever happen as both places have a definitive idea of how forum should be run.
I think the dyno sheet thing is funny. There is something called a smoothing factor when you get a read out from the dyno calculations. The smoothing factor is something that’s programmed into the dyno.
I ran a dyno for many years. If your a dyno operator you know how to put these things in. Each result will be different from dyno to dyno. We say in the b6/7 S4. You don’t drive to work on the dyno you drive to work on the street. A smooth dyno sheet doesn’t mean more then smooth on the street and it doesn’t mean it’s safer. The smart people pay for real results the uneducated pay for paper results.
