since its hard for me to get down to the track(im taking off on Wednesday next week to go if the weather allows it), in the mean time tho i got a V-box to play around with, what data would people like to see most? i would happily share the v-box with other members(id send it on the honor system and hope to get it back ;D) and maybe get some sort of v-box database going? thoughts? comments?
Rich, I am game to play… I would say get the basics like the 0-60, 1/4 time, 60-130, etc. Off the top of my head I can’t remember everything they can measure… Like I said I will try it and you won’t have any issues getting it back… I would actually like to run it while making a pass to see how accurate it is? Plans are too be at the strip every Sat. this month, weather permitting… This Sat. is mid 50’s with a BP around 30-30.2 and humidity in the 50’s… almost perfect conditions maybe a little warm but I’ll take it given all the damn rain we had this year! later Ron
id LOVE to verify the accuracy of the V-box, its sitting at the shop, ill go pick it up tonight and ill overnight it to you so you have it for saturday. like i said, ill happily whore out the V-box lol… that works on so many levels…
Vbox or Pbox? Vbox is many thousands of dollars. Pbox is the personal one.
Not sure what data is best. Make sure if you post data, you do so including a chart showing the elevation change. There’s software that comes with the Pbox. You can set it to measure time to distance, so do 60 330 660 and 1320 feet. That’s what you’d get from a quarter mile timeslip. If you want to measure time to speed, 60-130 is popular, but tough to do on public roads, especially considering you have to find a flat road to do it. 0-60 mph is also popular. Make sure you set the box to have rollout of about 10-11 inches.
p.s. If you want to buy a Pbox, I have one for sale for $375. Not sure how much they are new, but I think it’s about $550.

I would check the basics. 0-60 1/4 mile. I personally have no use for the 60-130. I thjink its about the most usless test ever invented. Its a test for brag racers and turbo cars that accelerate for shit in normal conditions. So for me I wouldn’t even give credence to the test.

A 20-75 or call it 80. This test can be done on the highway and in most cases will put you only 5mph over the speed limit and this would be closer to what speeds you would actually do a stand off test with someone on the street.
I would love to see more tests like that. I feel its more REAL world and more usable
Exactly great post man. I would love to see a 15-20 threw 75-80 This is when most people are going to do a hard acceleration any way. I can’t tell you the last time I needed to know how fast I could accelerate at a speed that is way beyond where I would drive my car. I think almost everyone can relate to thse speeds and if you are going to have a street race that is going to be the speeds you run that car at any way.
I also agree that as for now. All the members here are not driven by ego and we don’t have to worrie about altered results to make the end user ook beter

I think any test where you need to double or triple the speed limit to show someone how great your car is probably tells you that you’re doing it wrong. Who cares how your car does at cover-of-the-local-newspaper-speeds-when-you-get-arrested? Personally I want to know how my car acclerates through the gears I use all the time.
The REAL truth behind 60-130 is that Porsche GT2 guys making 600+Rwhp used the test because they frankly couldn’t go WOT below 60 without blazing tires. This 60-130 allowed them to test and benchmark themselves against one another to see what was working. That way the fastest cars / parts could be identified rather than the guy who can negotiate traction the best.
That’s great for them…but why the hell are quattro driven S4s and other guys using this test to measure the validity of their own performance formula? It doesn’t make sense. Just as a B7 S4 shouldn’t bother with FATS times (a VERY specific test designed for the B5 S4 for very B5 specific reasons that nobody in B5 seems to remember) I don’t think Audi etc. should bother with 60-130.
Nothing beats a good old fashioned ‘I’ll race you from here to that thing over there’. I mean fuck…we drive quattro equipped Audis. Man up and enjoy traction…we pay a hefty weight and drivetrain loss penalty for the privilege. Let’s use it!

yea i miss the way we used to test in the old days. between dave with the crap pes s4, dave with the slightly less crappy pes rs4, D and his s4 we all tried to give as many real world videos possible. i don’t have a crew of people to bench mark against anymore >:(
i didn’t get to the shop today to pick it up, ill grab it by the weekend and do a bunch of the tests u guys asked for. if i can find a nice road ill do a 1/4 too.
sak, will the p-box do elevation? why you selling yours?
yeah, the Pbox is insanely good for this stuff. It records like 40 things and then you output whatever you want to onto a chart and post it up. Elevation is one of them.
I just don’t use it that much. I live 40 minutes from a quiet dragstrip so I just go there when I need to. I also have a GTECH RR which is fine for my needs. The pbox is great though. It’s just 3x the price of the pbox, so if I’m selling one and keeping one to barely use, I may as well sell the valuable one.

D/91 is always good for some pulls.
Kryptonik/Dave is newly married, new house etc and probably busy with new life stuff to do but I’m sure he’ll be around for some fun soon if not now.
As soon as my car is healthy again I promise I will be making up for some lost time. I’ll be down to do pulls etc. I’ll make the trip to NJ - since Demetri/Richi/Kry Dave & euro addiction Dave I believe are all from NJ.
