It’s pretty simple…the blower can drive a certain quantity of air into the motor. Added to fuel and spark and there is power to be made.

Put gigantic injectors, massive exhaust, great headers…and it is all somewhat moot if the blower is maxed out. The car isn’t going to make any more power.

The S4 world saw loads of guys who bought the M90 against everyone’s advice (it’s good for maybe 450 hp at the crank or say 375 WHP on an AWD B6) and whewn they hit the strip and ran within a couple of tenths of S4s with downipes, exhaust and JHM tune, they blamed everything but the blower in an effort to not be wrong. They said ‘I’ll show you all!’ and proceeded to add MASSIVE mod lists…only to have their cars then run the same times as when they just had the supercharger.

Superchargers are like big screen TVs…customer satisfaction is directly correlated to size. Buy a little blower, and you’ll soon get annoyed with its limitations.

Buy a blower big enough to blow your engine’s internals all over the county…get a good tuner who will keep your motor safe…give it good supporting mods…and smile. Buy a blower small enough that you are hitting the ceiling sooner than you want to and you’ll be frustrated and angry and end up on quattroworld (or worse, selling your Audi). Actually, no I’ve got that wrong. Quattroworld is far worse.

All this being said, from a financial standpoint, unless you can do all the work yourself, it’s not financially sensible to invest in FI until a company COUGH JHM COUGH makes something.

what…the Eaton M62 PES kit? Sounds like a great idea.

Bill from Induktion had a 3.0L B6 and installed the PES 3 M62.
The company BOASTS 100HP gain which he only saw about 50.
He had the ECU tuned by them over and over and so he gave up on it.

The M62 can be had for about $4000. and unless You install it yourself
Your going to be out around $7000. for 50hp.

I’ll do a turbo’d VR6 swap before I do that.
Or buy a MK3 VR6 and turbo charge it.

Man you guys are dreaming big! If you were smart you’d dump your 3.0 and get something that can actually be made faster. If your going to get into the headache of custom parts and VR6 swaps, why not just do a 2.7tt swap?

USP has had more gains from the VR6 then the 2.7T motor.

And its not realy any/many custom parts needed.

Please take no offense but I’m going to be blunt,

Halo- stay on point, this is a supercharger thread focusing on a peiced together JHM supercharger kit, its not some random companies engine swaps which are not even practical. This site is mostly JHM nut swingers, lol, not USP, Induktion, labree… whoever else any of these companies that you always bring up that are not JHM or have been affiliated in any way, furthermore are not even doing anything for 3.0’s.

Euro- telling people to sell there car and buy something else is not helpful in ANY way at all, you have no idea what peoples situations are or what they want out of their car, if anyone wanted a 2.7 swap I think they know where to look. 3.0 crowd needs support and movement not discouragement.

So far the useful info we have is…

-JHM 4.2 blower fits the 3.0.
where does the IM come from??? PES KIT?
-Big blower with good tune is the way to go untill supporting mods can be added. And Quattroworld sucks.
what tune would this be? a custom tune? cuz i’ve heard those cost 4x a tune already made.

Parts list for a 3.0 supercharger kit

-JHM blower from 4.2 kit (can even be bought seperatly?)
-6 injectrs (what size?)
-tune (custom, or JHM tune already made could work? )
-manifold (from PES kit??)
-?

This might be a dumb question but do superchargers use intercoolers?
and does anyone know if the 3.0 comes stock with an oil cooler?

Ok man, you must know it then. Have fun spending 10k plus for a built VR6, then add in stand alone engine management. On top of that good luck making it pass emissions to drive it on the street. I may sound like a dick and I don’t wish to put down anyone’s hopes and dreams, but if you guys want bigger performance I would look into a different platform. Even a 2.0t swap would get you further than dumping cash into your 3.0. No one really knows the limit of your motor and the internals so you would be taking a lot of risks pushing it. I guess if you have deep pockets go for it, but then again if you did you would probably go with a swap or a different platform altogether.

I guess I am just trying to be logical, but you mention peoples situations?? In the long run if you are worried about costs and cash flow it would be a much smarter move to sell the vehicle you have and go with something that actually has a following. Like I said being the first to do things is not cheap.

Now you keep mentioning the JHM supercharger for the 4.2. Do you have any clue on the type of charger it is? You mention the IM and where does it come from?? The JHM setup is centrifugal, it isn’t a top mount like the other you posted, therefore it utilizes your stock manifold. I’m also questioning the strength of your internals. Does anyone really know the limits? Are you prepared to find out? If so do you realize the cost of problems you may have?

Judging by some of your questions you should do a lot more research on the subject of supercharger systems or your motor in general. Buy the Bentley manual and read up, learn a little more about your platform, but I’m just explaining that nothing is cheap in this game man.

Especially coming from someone in the same predicament, arguably, owning 4.2 mpi. Play nice with the kids :). I do however agree that the vr6 suggestion is mental. It would cost more than three full B6 A4 3.0 cars entirely…and you would need a fourth A4 3.0 to install it in.

As for the JHM blower a4go, it is a centrifugal supercharger…it is not installed in the manifold. It is free standing in a way in the engine bay down in place of the passenger side aux radiator behind the fog light, and feeds the existing intake manifold via a tube that feeds into the throttle body (replaces the stock airbox effectively).

I understand Saki, but sometimes the truth is the best. If you have a guy ask how can I make my V6 camaro fast, no doubt it can be done, but after he actually makes it fast he should have just sold it and bought an LS1. I know I’m gonna get torched for bringing up domestic motors, but it’s an honest comparison.

If they have deep pockets and can donate their cars and motors as Guinea pigs like many 4.2 BHF guys did (which I personally am incredibly grateful for!!) then by all means have at it.

Maybe I should just leave them alone and shut up, not trying to be a dick guys, just want to get your minds thinking into things a little further.

Thats really interesting I’ve never seen a supercharger like that, thats actually pretty cool news cuz in my case since I just paid out ass to clean, rebuild, paint, and install spacers for my IM. I will definitly have to read more on this centrifugal setup its very intriguing.

I totally understand selling and trust me not a day goes by when I ask myself WTF i’m doing, and I stare at the white and grey S4’s with 35k all day long on AZ and even wishing I had a nogoro with decent miles. But this is what I just did to my car in the last 120days of my car sitting in a shop not moving…

1st shop that had it before VW dealer in July
-clutch and flywheel all new hardware
-slave cylinder

2nd shop, VW in August,
-all cams and lifters
-t-belt kit with thermostat
-timing chain tensioner? something forget what its called but it was spendy
-rebuld IM and paint install spacers
-paint valve covers
-new plugs, coils, filters, fluids, vacuum lines and little misc broken were replaced
-power steering pump
-ac compressor
-clutch master cylinder
-4 new o2 sensors
-B7 keys
-RNS-E
-Window Regulator
-Aux Alarm control mod
-new window switches
-complete control arm kit with inner out tie rods
-new set pzeros and alignment

So I basically just bought my car again. I think the time to sell was when my flyhwheel went out, i feel like I can’t back out now… but maybe i should…no i can’t…(thats what goes on in my head).

I think everyone here knows that its a large waste of money to try and push the 3.0L NA motor.
People with deep pockets have tried and failed.
Bill the lead Tech at Induktrion has spent $10k trying and did NOT like what he got for his money.
Thats why he owns a B5 S4 that pushes around 450-500hp.

I had the choice of the 2.0T or the 3.0L when I bought the car.
I chose the 3.0L and I stick to it!
If I want a 1/4 mile car I’ll get a MK2 shell and put a VR6 Turbo in it and run 10s in the 1/4.

What we all would like is big companies to put some effort into finding Us some more power.

We as 3.0L owners know its there but can’t find it and don’t have the deep pockets to do it!

If You think fast cars get You hot girls faster think again.
F1 racers own fast cars and they get the girls because of the $$$$…

A4go, I can understand your position so I will try and add quality info if I post in this thread. Have your got your compression test re-done? because you really need to find out if your mechanic screwed it up or if your numbers are really that low. If they are that low you are losing a lot of power and throwing more parts or FI at your car is a horrible idea.

After this comment I now realize you may still be 19, ,so I guess dreaming big isn’t a bad thing. I don’t mess with cars to get hot girls, cars of any kind just interest me, but your assumption that I think the two go hand in hand is pretty amusing.

I thing the s/c used for the 4.2 will be too big. IIRC it’s a 800hp blower, and JHM is using a massive pulley to slow the beast from over-powering the 4.2
