Vbox and Methanol Results

Well, after receiving my Vbox, of course I immediately went out and did some testing.

The piece of land used is completely flat and straight, posted below.

https://maps.google.ca/maps?saddr=ON-401+W&daddr=ON-401+W&hl=en&ll=42.239956,-82.867985&spn=0.11387,0.264187&sll=42.240719,-82.875195&sspn=0.113869,0.264187&geocode=FUaLhAIdtXIP-w%3BFQ6RhAIdxJgO-w&t=h&mra=me&mrsp=1,0&sz=13&z=13

I used the center lane each time, I started around 5500RPM or approx 40Mph I believe in 2nd, and floored it.

Car Setup

  • Tune = 93 GIAC Stage II
  • Gas = 94 PetroCan Ultra In Tank
  • DA = -800 according to drag times

Runs

  • 1st Pass No Methanol - 11.85

  • 2nd Pass No Methanol - 11.7

  • 3rd Pass Light Spray - 11.4

  • 4th Pass Light Spray - 11.2

Also, the bypass valve issue is killing me, some runs I am seeing boost drop to 10-11 Psi by redline, GIAC needs to do some cold weather testing!!!

I am reading boost from the analog hookup on a P3 gauge connected to the Eurocode boost tap.

Nice job on testing.

As far as cold weather testing…

we have done -2500 DA logging on Pete and Nick’s cars… I don’t think they have ever seen 10-11 psi. Even at 2000 rpms when they start the logging.

they hit 16 psi at ~3300 rpms with max 17-18psi and boost goes until redline/bypass 8-9%. Even then the boost is still 15-16psi.

Yah these runs I’m not sure about as I had the gauge on timing.

The other day though it dropped to 10.9 in third gear.

I wouldn’t go by gauge.

You should log in this -1000 DA weather and send them to Austin if you haven’t already. He asks to log specific things when we do Pete’s car. I have never seen any tuned Stage 2 car drop to 11 psi at redline, even in -2500+ DA. .

I posted what my logs saw the other day in the boost thread, it shows them dropping below 14 consistently. I am getting almost 20% bypass in some runs(no meth).

I agree the gauge is not likely the most accurate, just gives a general idea of what is happening.

It’s probably the headers ::slight_smile:

Nice times btw

Had a little decline help :stuck_out_tongue: You would be surprised what is completely flat. Even our track isn’t completely flat. It’s pretty close though. I believe we have around a 0.1% decline in the northbound direction and a slight incline in the southbound run.

60-116 or deepest point on run was 0.578% decline. (7.161 ft drop over 1237.2 ft)

60-130 was 0.40% decline as elevation came up a few feet. (6.59 ft drop over 1650 ft)

Nice runs. Keep em going! Wish you lived closer to us.

Here is one of my old southbound (with Incline) runs last year…

60-130 10.64s
100 file, stock rotors, stock 19s, stock cats, no CPS

I am waiting for a clear awesome DA night… new mods vs the 10.64s 60-130 run.

104 file, LW f/r rotors, raised rev limiter to accomodate LW 18 inch wheels and hitting 130 in 4th, CPS and running on non incline side lol.

Already did a 11.0s flat in summertime on pump so I should be in low 10s/high 9s this time around on race gas.

I’m going to try going the other direction.

I.E. Opposite side of divider on the 6 lane 401 highway.

Flat is hard to find. Closest I’ve been is one foot change, but that was for like 60-90mph. 60-130 takes such a long distance that it’s hard to get it flat

Also, these things aren’t exactly dead accurate… They can be off by as much as ten feet.

P.s. Jones you may want to delete any reference to the location. You just admitted to going 210 kmh in a 100kmh zone, and in ontario this post is sufficient to lose you car to the street racing law. You’d end up in the news too, like the guy on the m5 forum who did the same thing in Toronto.

I will delete this message after you do

Lol what’s this world coming to…

Damn that’s crazy.

Oh and tsivas will delete his quote of my post lol

Is it possilble tthat the mentonal is messing with some sensor and from that triggering the bypass…

Sure. It lowers IATs which results in a higher air mass into the cylinder. If it already opens with no meth it will get worse then because not enough is requested from the drivers wish to stay it closed in the first place.

I would just get the mods to delete the whole thread

Actually, not once did I mention my speed

Read it again.

Your neck not mine.

Jeff, Good stuff! Any word from GIAC about “fixing” your tune so it doesn’t bypass boost? For a reference I vboxed some passes at the strip in 2012 and when I went 11.76 and stayed in it to over 130 my 60-130 was 11.06.

Indeed. Many cars at full throttle for 11 secs from 40 mph will over in the impound range!
