Vbox tests round 2 (some new cars added) GIAC 93, Stage 3 B5 S4, B7 RS4

Well as you may know from my initial thread I made, I have been very interested in testing all our setups in a very closed/controlled environment with the VBOX.

Below is the old post from initial testing we did.

I have followed up this thread with some more data on a few more cars. (Best DA of 3 nights tested).

First up a 2007 B7 RS4. (ECS tuning H pipe resonator delete, K&N drop in, JHM intake spacers, JHM stage 4 clutch and LW flywheel, JHM LW rotors). (DA -1100)

60-90 4.23s
60-100 6.33s
60-120 10.85s

Next up is a 2001 Stage 3 B5 S4 (Custom tuning, KO4 turbos/ 60lb injectors)/6MT on pump gas. (DA -1300)

He runs a 9.6s 60-130 on race gas.!!!

60-90 3.15s
60-100 4.44s
60-120 8.18s
60-130 10.38s

We finally got our hands on a GIAC 93 stage 1+ car/6MT. (DA -1300)
MODS: AWE tuning intake, FI exhaust
He did three runs and I also got a chance to data log the car with the vag com… we saw timing pull!!!
I’ll get to that in another post.

60-90 3.8 s
60-100 5.69s
60-120 9.7s
60-130 12.02s (nice shift to 5th)

60-90 3.71s
60-100 5.57s
60-120 9.5s
60-130 12.19s (nice shift to 5th)

60-90 3.79s
60-100 5.87s
60-120 9.91s
60-130 13.18s

Last was another APR Stage 2+ V2 6MT/ 93 tune. (DA -1300)
MODS: APR Intake, Milltek exhaust, BBK, LW wheels.

We could not get a good run because the car had some issues with the clutch etc.

The one run we got was very promising. Even faster than the other run that I had from the previous post. The car pulls and if it didn’t have that clutch issue… I guarantee it would have beat that 11.6 60-130 APR time and be new leader for us B8s on our testing ground. We have a ton of work to do to catch that B5 S4 though. Probably not happening until Stage 3. :-[

Here is the only data that was usable

60-90 3.3s

I am handing the vbox to primetime to get some data at the track/another level surface to compare to us.

Hopefully I can add some more testing later on with some more cars/setups. We still need more DSG cars to help in the comparison.

From the data I saw… The fastest 60-130 car was the APR Stage 2+v2 6MT. The fastest 60-120 car (9.15s) was the Revo 93 Stage 1 DSG. If we were comparing 6MT only, with the 60-120 times there is no dreaded 4th to 5th gear change that some of us have to do and deal with one shift only (manual cars), we can get a better comparison…

60-120 only (6MT)
Revo 93 Stage 1 (9.21s),
APR 93 Stage 2+ V2 would be second (9.31s)
GIAC 93 (9.5s)
APR 93 Stage 2+ V1 (9.53s)

If the last car (APR 93 Stage 2+ V2 6MT) we tested was running well… he would have taken every test I believe.

Thanks to everyone that came over to our private testing strip. Everyone had same reaction when they saw the layout. :o :o :o :o

good info. 2 questions

  1. where did my bone-stock car stack up against that RS4? It seems that car wasn’t exactly…fast. Did he have any shifts on the 60-90? The RS4 maxes out 2nd gear at 101 mph, so he shouldn’t be shifting. My 60-90 was 3.78 (vs his 4.2) and 60-100 was 6.15–6.25 (vs his 6.3). I think my road is 1% downgrade or something though so not apples to apples. I can find a flat one.

  2. the 60-90 for the MT6 cars looks a bunch faster, likely because they don’t shift and the DSG does. You’ll notice the MT6 car having to shift before 100 lets the DSG cars make up all that ground and then some. It evens the score, shift wise. Maybe I’m reading it wrong ,but it appears to be the case.

edit: I just looked at the RS4 graph blown up. He shifted at 65 mph and at 92 mph…thus explaining his shitty 60-90 time and 60-120 time. That’s adding 2-4 tenths for no reason. My car did 60-90 in 3.78 seconds as you’ll recall and it did 60-120 in 10.70 (the 60-120 was on a 0% grade)

Anyway, this is cool that you’re getting a big database of info on different cars. Maybe put all the variables in your log wherever that is, including the full modlists, weight (cargo? fuel?) and density altitude (at the nearest dragstrip, you can pull it off dragtimes in the tools)

is that 3rd gear?

sorry, 3rd

2nd is 71 or so.

4th is 132 I think

they go forever compared to my s4

Saki the Stock B8 S4 you sent:
60-90 4.37 secs
60-100 6.46 secs

really? maybe I’m losing my mind. What about my car?

also how does that Hpipe sound? Is it too raspy? I’ve never heard one in person, but online they always seem to be raspy. Could just be that microphones get overwhelmed a bit from noise.

I couldn’t decipher ur b7 s4 and rs4 files. Got a little confused. Send over ur rs4 .dbn again if u can.

the files I had… best 60-90 4.64s
best 60-100 6.64s
Didn’t see any runs in the files u sent that hit 120+.

Here’s video of Tony’s car. In person, I think it sounds pretty f’in sweet.

tsivas, I’ll shoot you an email later… need to play with this some more and want to make sure I have it right for the strip Sat. Just did a 0-60… 3.3 seconds… not bad…

i like our v-box honor system lol she gets around… the offer only applies to AR members ;D

Yeah, thanks again bud… Very kind of you to let others use it… problem now is I think I am going to buy one… lol

Prime… I wouldn’t go by the vbox screen. it tends to be a little optimistic. the pboxtools software on your pc is where real data gets crunched. Email me over the .dbn files that get saved on the SD card if you want.

that’s retarded fast…but the screen is unfortunately nowhere near accurate. The data that logs in the device is though. Send me the .DBN file that it spit out and I’ll post up the chart.

damn tsivas beat me to that . I need to read the whole thread, then reply.

you know what’s really sad? Yesterday at the strip, I had my pbox in the glovebox and forgot to put it on people’s cars lol. we had revo93, APR II 100, GIAC 91, APR II 100…and I got NOTHIN.

Damn saki! all that level track data we could have had!! Especially DSG cars!!!
