Weighed Stock RS4 wheels

They were ~700 when i checked last year…not sure what happened there…

You should buy that 500lb lighter Honda and put these wheels on your new Honda

or

that 300lb lighter 911…

^ I’m not sure what that’s suppose to mean. 997 Carrera S’s (for instance) have a curb weight of 3200-3300, V6T S5’s are closer to 3800-3900lbs. That’s a 500-700lbs difference depending on what you want to use. Porsche’s are also rear biased weight distribution ~45/55 (closer to 40/60, but for argument sake…), completely opposite to S5’s (~55/45). OZ rates the front load use lower than rear’s.

I guess you just don’t get what I’m saying. These are all basic and worthwhile investigations/calculations to do when you’re purchasing lightweight wheels.

On second thought, you should buy the lightest wheels you can afford for your car with no regard for load rating and trust that because you paid ~1K/wheel that the manufacturer didn’t know what they were doing when they stamped them. ::slight_smile:

Good luck and I genuinely hope you don’t have a failure.

Serious question as a good point has been raised in this thread. I’ve never owned aftermarket wheels - what kind of testing/approval do they do through? OEM wheels (presumably) would have gone through all sorts of testing, specially to get them to German TUV standards. I bought a set of BBS RC’s in the past - these were OEM on C5 A6’s and mk4 Jettas so same thing.

Forgestar, TSW, Oz, Enkei etc, to what standard are they held? Pure speculation and random thoughts, but could an insurance company deny a payout because you were using shitty wheels?
