Well hello

yeah, I had a window half down when I first went and got yelled at.

my personal favourite is when guys ‘line up’ right beside the tree. That’s always good for a stadium full of eyerolls and laughter, not to mention heckling if it’s a foreign car

I had my window all the way down the first pass we made that morning in Oct. There was so much going on i never thought of putting it up. No one said anything.

Second run though i got yelled at “YELLOW AUDI… PUT YOUR WINDOW UP!” lol

Normally it’s just “AUDI!”

yeah, we had half a dozen there to confuse the issue

window down = slower anyway, so you’d think we’d know to keep it up, but it just shows you. I have to often go through a little mental checklist before each run to make sure

  1. ESP all the way off
  2. windows all up
  3. radio off
  4. heat off and seat heaters etc off

All this little shit helps, and also allows you to focus.

How do you turn the ESP partially off? hehe

You hold ESP for 4 seconds or more and it’s all the way off. First you need to buy an RS4 though.

Good tips here. My first time I didn’t turn the ESP off and I thought I’d broken shit on my car. Then saki arrived and pointed out the error of my ways!

I know some have advocated you go on your own under the radar for the first time but having someone in a similar car who’s been before helped me a lot. Plus if you have the same car like we did but one stock, one with mods…

Cool! So the RS4 has the ability to “partially” turn the ESP off? What does it do when it’s partially off? Simply less intrusive/you have to be nearly off the road before it finally kicks in?

It’s almost like those Ferraris

^BMW’s have been doing the same style system for years on all of their cars. They do a ESP and the a DTC light, and I think the M models have even more options/etc.

It’s kinda nice, but at the same time, when I usually turn it off I want it all off.

I know the C6 S6 is like that. press once for “ESP Off”. Press and hold for “ESP/ASR Off”

Now that we’re on the topic, someone needs to figure out A way to make ESP off by default

I’ve talked to Count and JHM several times. Not a ton of interest and possibly some liability for them to worry about on their side. But the best solution was that Count thought he could have the ESP switch just wired up in reverse and it would do the job. I pushed for a while that it should be a crucial part of including LA on their tunes (when it seemed LA was going to be a "add-on"option not the default) so that idiots (myself included) didn’t go and launch the car with the ESP on and ruin the clutch.

I wondered why my times were so slow when I went to the track this year. I also wondered why it seemed as if my clutch was slipping after a few runs. Man, did I ever feel like a tool after leaving the ESP on all night. ::slight_smile:

^It’s not an instant ruined clutch b/c you left ESP on, but it’s certainly not something good to do as you should avoid at all costs. But I probably have had it happen about 6-8 times with the old clutch 1-2 times with the new clutch.

I was trying to beat the crap out of my clutch before the new one and abuse LA so we could see what type of wear might be shown. For me I had started to loose some grip and the self adjustment of the clutch was all the way out so my engagement point was a bit higher then original.

careful, you guys are talking about two different things.

Karsty has a bone stock RS4 that he was launching with ESP on
MadDog is talking about his JHM tuned B7 S4 with JHM Launch Assist, that doesn’t like to be launched with ESP on and caused him some trouble

regarding JHM Launch Assist, that would be a good idea Mad…to have it only active if ESP is off.

^My bad, I have a hard time keeping track of who has what model on this forum. Partly b/c we’re all jumping in different forums and supporting/helping/suggesting new ideas, and partly b/c other then in a sig line, there’s not a real good place to quickly reference what car the individual has.

I was curious if Count could write LA to only be active when the ESP is on, but I what I had suggested was that if an individual wanted LA as an add on to their current tune, then a new ESP switch be purchased that worked in reverse of the current switch (i.e. press the button to TURN ON ESP). But as mentioned, I think that may have some possible liability etc issues. But if JHM could have LA only turn on when ESP is off, that’d be killer. I do really miss LA, it was a lot of fun for cocking about.

Still no LA for S/C’d cars? (b6/7 s4’s)

I’ve got LA on my S/C B7 tune

You had to specifically ask for it though right?

Ah. . . never mind. Guess it’s slowly coming around. I know it’s a lot more difficult on all the different ecu boxes for the B7 vs the B6. I just thought it wasn’t out there yet, glad to hear that though.

No, it came that way without asking, but I might be special  I just installed a new tune last night though and haven’t checked to see if it’s included in this version…
