What do you guys think of this transmission as a replacement for mine?

01E TDI Quattro 6 Speed Transmission

Should I be selected any of the drop down options? My transmission has just over 100k miles and I have a feeling it’s going to be the weakest link when I get the full force non-conservative tune up and running.

I think the gear ratios will be all wrong. The next time something major goes wrong, get the gearbox rebuilt. Until hen, just enjoy it!

Get the JHM 01E rebuild kit when your tranny takes a shit.

I’ve seen a similar 01E TDI where 1-3 or 1-4 were the same ratios as the stock NA S4 and only the 5-6 were different.

(waiting for b6 third gear joke)

hmmm dont get it. unless it was the NA part and that I meant North American not Naturally Aspirated. :stuck_out_tongue:

or am i missing something else?

Lol yeah i thought you meant naturally aspirated as in b6 s4

lol no worries. that would have really been a bizarre post

I agree. Wait till the transmission has gone out first.

While its good to be ahead of the curve. Wait for the bend in the road before you start to wonder off. Get the car running and asses all the parts then. Its a B5. If you wanted to be ready for all the parts that are going to break you might as well go get another B5. haha. just joking. When it comes time I would just call JHM. The rebuild Transmissions for a few Audi dealerships and they will be able to give you first hand information on whats best for you. As they actually have a B5 S4. One of the up sides to having a car that you sell parts for is that you can relate better to the customer.

Thank you. I appreciate all the advice. It appears my weakest links are then the axles and rear differential. Any advice there?

For axles and a center driveshaft I would look at the driveshaft shop but be prepared to spend some coin.

Wouldn’t worry so much about the rear diff. Changing the fluid would help though.

Thank you very much. My rear differential fluid is being changed - so that’s cool… I’m glad to hear that SHOULD be okay. Now the driveshaft:

Okay… About $900. I see it’s good for 1000 horsepower. More than my car will ever have. What type of power are the stock ones good for? Generally…

What’s labor like on an installation like this for our cars?

A couple more links for the heck of it.

Tough call…do you change shit that might break out in advance…or do you wait for it to break?

Wait until it breaks! Do people even break b5 S4 drive shafts? Just a question…

OP don’t turn into the guy that keeps buying parts for his car that never runs or drives, because…well it’s always waiting on “upgraded” parts.

Your never going to prevent breaking parts on a pretty well modded car. It’s the nature of the beast so don’t worry yourself about weak links…you’ll get no where and the car will be parked 95% of the time.

yeah, just get CAA or your own trailer!

Well I don’t know what CAA is - but good advice. I won’t waste any more time with things I don’t need for now. I just really hope I can drive the car for awhile before having to order parts, wait for shipping, wait for installation, yada, yada, yada. At this point I’ve had the car for 8 months and have driven it 1 week. I’m getting anxious now.

AAA

Oh, yeah I have that. Used it to tow my car to Jnaut’s shop.

I only have one of six tows from them left for this year and my car hasn’t moved since the end of March!

D’s fuckin’ cahz…
