What do you love most about your S6?

Great info Paul

I did a quick search using your info, and found that the problem we are describing is also often referred to as the “ZF lurch”, and there are entire websites dedicated to it http://www.thelurch.com/lurching_zf_transmission.htm (not a good sign, as there did not seem to be a clear resolution)

Variant 1 : The Lurch we experience occurs when you bring the car to a halt in a smooth manner by braking very gently and letting the car come very smoothly to rest. Just before the car has come to a complete rest a little lurch like somebody has gently nudged the car occurs. It feels like a gear is being engaged or disengaged just before coming to rest. This can vary in intensity from a very slight nudge to a powerful jump that rocks the car.

Variant 2 : In addition, when you slow very gently to a creeping halt without actually stopping and then gently try to accelerate - there is a slight hesitation when the engine revs higher, then the gearbox engages the drive wheels with a jolt. This varies from a harsh jolt to snatchy.

Looks like people are trying all kinds of things…TCU update, transmission oil flush using specific oils (e.g. ZF Lifeguard6 http://www.xoutpost.com/822704-post85.html), rebuilt valve body http://www.xoutpost.com/872353-post12.html, etc. Looks like we are going to have to start another thread for this problem. At least we arent alone on this one, as BMW and Jaguar seem to be effected too.

Mine does both variants of the lurch, however the first one never really bothered my. It happens when the car engages 1st gear as I’m coming to a stop. But If I switch from braking to throttle RIGHT before it performs lurch #1, it performs lurch #2 during the 1st gear engagement instead. Which is 10x more violent. One of my neighbors actually got mad at me because I gently applied the gas pedal after going over a speed bump, and it sounded like I was trying to peel out in the parking lot. It hasn’t happened in a few months, because I’ve learned how to avoid it, but it sure would be nice if I didn’t have to think about it. Ya I also vote that we move this particular conversation to a dedicated thread.

I scared the shit out of this couple in an underground parking lot. They were walking past, and I tried to go slowly past them - did a 4-wheel tire chirp directly at them. They don’t really believe you when you say sorry!!!

You guys might want to break this off into its own thread to help get some more answers.

Just started a new thread to track the ZF Lurch in the S6

My fiancee dislike top speed and power, but like it because its family car, a lot of space, just i need new exhaust with electric cut out so it will be quiet when she is in ;D

ok here is something I hate!

when I just wash my GD car and it is dark outside and I go to wash my WS and guess what happens next!?!? yes I know you know!!

The GD headlight washers spray my entire front end with like a gallon of washer fluid.

Any way to turn that off? I don’t own a VAG-COM

anyway to turn off the abbreviations? I’m lost.

oops sorry

GD: curse word

WS: windshield

I thought this happens to everyone when they activate the WS washers when the headlights are on…

That has happened to me in the past. I pulled the headlight washer feed now I can hold down the washer for the windshield and not have any issues.

Use this to clean your windshield.

O hate cleaning my windshield. It’s the hardest thing I have to do in life.

I think if you pull it all the way it activates the headlight washers, i pull it lightly and doesnt give my front end a quick wash.

I think maybe it is only an issue for 2010-2011 models. The headlight washer automatically goes on when the headlights are on and the windshield washer is activated. It will then not activate for a period of time or activation’s or some formula I am not aware of. But it shoots A LOT of fluid on the top of the car. Maybe I should simply pull the fuse for the headlight washer. Anyone know where that is in a 2010 S6?

in vagcom you can adjust the time you hold the lever before they spray. I believe. So maybe you can make that time 5 seconds or something…that way you’ll pretty much never accidentally activate it.

I am considering buying a VAG-COM.

Can anyone supply me with model info? An amazon link would be great actually. 2010 S6

Go to http://www.ross-tech.com/ and it will tell you which one to get for your car.

There is now a wireless one, but it is pretty pricey.

Is this in just newer cars.

Vagcom will be very helpful. If you want a low tech solution you can pull the fluid supply line. That will stop it from happening but you won’t be able to wash your headlights with the system unless you hook the line back up

The s6 was my fav car hence my yearning for an d3 s8
Loved all but a bit front heavy. Only weakness I saw, I loved it 9 out of 10 for me. Has soul. Most cars post this generation lack it. I may have affinity for v10 as I had e60 m5 before…like my s6 better for tq and handling day to day
