What exactly is available for the 3.0 performance wise.

With all this talk and suggestions.

What is currently available?

Someone mentioned shifter? I would think the A4 shifter would work?
Obviously It sounds like there are a few “tunes” that are the standard REV limit and Speed limit with little else

When you guys list whats available. List the peoples thoughts on them. or grade them yourself.

An example would be. like… A GIAC chip. grade D…

Catback, shifter, airfilter I believe thats it for now.

Adapting some S4 stuff would be great

-Tune
-Lightweight accessory setup
-Ram air setup (i.e. by foglight)
-Oil cooler
-Ported intake manifold and throttle body w/ new flap
-Clutch and lightweight flywheel
-S4 BBK
-Downpipes
-2.25" X-Pipe Catback

I think it’d be awesome to see the 3.0 get to the stock 4.2 S4 performance level with solid boltons just like the JHM S4 program got the S4 to stock RS4 performance.

And then beyond a blower or some nitrous would be cool. I’d think a blower would be awesome considering the 10.1:1 compression of the stock motor. Maybe 7-8psi with the centrifugal setup may be a 350-375whp car… enough to keep up with older OTS B5 S4 stg 3s and B8 S4s.

there is definitely a shifter available. JHM’s A4 shifter will work. there are two different options depending on the year/transmission of your 3.0:

** i have this shifter in my 2004 a4 1.8t and it’s awesome, definitely an A grade for it. it’s hard to describe it other than how JHM describes it - it’s just SOLID. the feel of the shifts is very positive and direct. you can slam the shifter into gears and not feel like you’re going to break anything. the shifter drops the height of the knob/shaft just enough to make it feel more aggressive, but not so much like its a 1/2 inch honda shifter or something. it’s a simple upgrade that i enjoy every minute i’m in the car.

From what we’ve been discussing I think that piggies combined with an ECU and TCU tune is going to make a huge difference for most of us.

Oh and to add to the thread, the main companies that do “tunes” are:

Unitronic
Wetterauer
powerchip
Neuspeed
upsolute tuning
PES (they apparently make a standalone chip aside from the supercharger)

no point in posting numbers, they vary between each one but they all over the same thing, increased rpm limiter, removed speed limiter, and change fueling around and make it feel like theres better throttle response. Noone really seems to be happy with them as the end result is worse MPG and no real performance increase.

There’s the sprintbooster, but that just changes how much throttle the pedal gives the engine when you push it down, again no actual performance gain.

hyperflow CAI… doesnt do anything according to everyone that has one.

a lot of companies that do catbacks, no point in listing them all the S4 ones are compatible with our cars as well. As they are just the catback itself no real performance gain there either.

Supersprint makes headers and downpipes, but they are really expensive and have to be imported from europe. Labree makes HFC’s and downpipes, again pretty expensive.

I think the pattern is obvious, most of the stuff is a waste of money as it doesn’t do anything, and anything that does is just marginal in terms of gains and costs a lot.

From what Ive seen Meistah all you listed is a joke.

The CAI could work but Ive seen talk about a ram air. That would be my suggestion.

The chips. while I havent been in a chipped 3.0 Ive been in other chipped N/A Audi’s and unless its a JHM program it seems to be a waste.

I would love to see you guys start with the piggies and a tune. That should really get you a gauge of where your at and how far out your going to be from say the 13 sec zone

You got it, not much out there for actual performance upgrades aside from the s/c.

I agree, the ram air concept will be better, the CAI systems available for us have been proven to be pretty useless.

I strongly agree with that. I think that’s when we first really got a idea of what the S4 was about and where it could go. I was pretty shocked the difference in piggie pipes, and was really shocked by catless. But piggies and a good tune really would give a better basis for where things actually stand. When you look at the 4.2 S4, it’s shocking how many products out there give you nothing when bolted on, but when you pick the few right ones, how drastic of an improvement they can make.

Exactly the greatest part in the world isn’t going to do shit without the proper tuning to make the the car and part function together correctly.
